Please read "Why We Get Fat And What To Do About It" by Gary Taubes. I checked a copy out of my local library.
You are probably suffering from a genetic problem which afflicts about 30% of the population. Sufferers from this unnamed disorder put on fat even when they are not eating too much. They are overly sensitive to simple carbohydrates, sugar, corn syrup and refined grains.View Thread
I have been where you are. Addicted to the same things. What worked for me was slow small changes. Only one per week or two weeks. First, because I know sugar is worst, I switched to smaller servings of soda. I had been drinking 2 20 oz. cokes per day. So I down-sized to 2 12 oz. cokes per day. When I no longer felt deprived from that, I reduced my servings of fries and chips. Instead of a medium size fry when I was out, I would only get a small. Instead of pouring chips into a big bowl to share in front of the TV, I got myself my own cereal bowl of chips. Boy, was that a tough step. But it worked! Candy again called for a step down. I cut my usual size serving in half.
I have been at it now since May and have lost 28 pounds. I'm not going to try to snow you by claiming I don't miss things. I do. But, when I want chocolate I have 1/3 of an ounce of dark chocolate, or 1/5 of a Snickers. I adore Tostitos and am down to 1/2 ounce per serving. I even weigh and measure my cheats, which keeps that under control. Ice cream in the house is an absolute trap for me. We had a birthday party and while everyone was here I held myself to one plastic spoon of cake and ice cream. But after everyone left and I was alone, I found they had forgotten the ice cream. I struggled with temptation for an hour. Then I said, okay if I am going to cheat, let it be a controlled cheat. And I carefully measured one level half cup. After eating that in little tiny nibbles over at least 20 minutes I could resist the rest.
Know this everyone, IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. Your bodies misregulate your accumulation of fat and your appetite. But you will never improve unless you make different choices. Choose whole grains only and limit them to 2 servings per day. The government eating guidelines are for non obese people. Eat lots of vegetables. Don't eat processed foods. 2-3 servings of fruit per day and NO JUICE. Cut out salt and artificial sweeteners.
Virtually no sugar As little salt as possible only whole grains and only 2-3 servings per day vegetables unlimited except for starchy veg like potato and corn which should be counted with grains fruit whole fresh unsweetened 2-3 per day lean meats, poultry and fish
You'll feel better quickly and loose weight slowly. But this will be your regimen for life and your labs will improve. Mine did.View Thread
There is a core of about 10 in the 50-100 pound group who are on here daily. Even though you don't have as much to lose, you would be welcomed. And there are several who have lost 100 pounds. Lots of wisdom there.

How many people do you know who are disciplined, hard-working, moral and FAT? The truth is that some of us can't eat the Standard American Diet (SAD) WITHOUT becoming obese. I ate in the way Taubes, Roizen and Oz recommend through out college-the only time in my life I was at a steady weight. After college, I was too busy to make my old choices and went back to SAD. The past month has been a revelation to me as I feel better every day. My hunger is manageable. I have more energy and I am more hopeful.
