1) Children store iron extrmely well (unless the have a malabsorption syndrome) and if they are eating a healthy diet do not need extra iron
2) If a child gets into the bottle (especially if the vitamins are "tasty" chewables) they could easily overdose on iron whereas the rest of the nutrients are less likely to cause toxicity.View Thread

Think of a steak you buy at the store that has fat "marbling". Your muscles are "marbled" with fat like that steak. As you begin to exercise (and eat healthier) your body will replace the "marbling" with muscle, and the size often remains the same but the overall tissue is more dense (heavier for the same size container or slightly smaller container). This is the annoying "I'm doing everything right but I gained weight" scenario. On the other hand, the young adult that begins to exercise less and eat more often doesn't see any immediate weight gain because they are replacing muscle with "marbling" fat interspersed in the the muscle tissue; a lighter-weight (less dense) tissue. Once the muscles are nice and marbled, they begin to see the "spare tire" form.
