The steroid hormone balance of our teenage years fade thru the decades and on goes the weight. No big surprise.
The first thing most people think about is thyroid hormone, and rightfully so as hypothyroidism is very common, and induces weight gain.
But I'm about to share something else with you that could be interfering with efforts to lose weight, and its not food or exercise.
I'm talking about products we bring into our homes daily that are hormone disruptors. The two most wicked that come to mind are Fabric softener and plug-in air fresheners. Inhalation of the toxic chemicals in these products isn't exactly the picture of health.
We inhale 3000 to 6000 gallons of air each day. It all enters the blood stream just like food does. These chemicals can have an impact on metabolism, and several are carcinogens.
I visited a home where they had a plug-in air freshener in every room. It was overpowering. When I stepped outside into the yard, I could still smell the air "freshener" leaking out the house within 6 feet of the house's closed windows. That's how strong it was. Knowing what chemicals were in the product, I predicted a cancer diagnoses in that home, and most likely the wife would be the one effected. 50 weeks later she was diagnosed.
Air fresheners, perfumes, Fabric softener, and other household products can impact hormones and metabolism.
We switched to free and clear laundry detergent, ditched all air fresheners, scented candles, etc. We avoid fabric softener like the plague.
Not the normal thing people think of when maintaining healthy weight, but when we consider we inhale 3000 to 6000 times more than we eat, reality strikes.View Thread

I think you made a good point when you said " something you can stick with" cause if ya can't stick with it, it won't last.
I have witnessed my 61 year old sister regain her teenage body back and maintain it for for years.
Her self prescribed diet consists mainly of meat and vegetables. She eats some fruit also, but mostly meat and veges. Absolutely no bread or sugar. NONE.
She gradually lost weight at 3 lbs per month till she lost 40 lbs...and kept it off.
She claims she isn't following any commercial diet. All self prescribed. I told her what she was doing is essentially called the paleo diet, or caveman diet. She said she had never heard of it before.
Her aggressive avoidance of sugar reminds me of sugar busters. She doesn't realize it, but her diet is a hybrid between paleo and sugar busters... and its working for her.
She has not altered her level of physical activity. Its all been 100% dietary changes. No gym.View Thread

OK, I grew up in general aviation and I'm thinking..uh, the smell of jet fuel keeps them skinny? Weight and balance of the aircraft?
Whatever the answer is, There was a notable difference between the Mexican crew and the Korean crew. Nobody fat, but a notable difference. At least for the 2 hours I watched.
Now when I worked fueling aircraft on the general aviation side of an airport, I did note corporate jet pilots being notably overweight ( which you don't see with the airlines)

So why not eat like the South Koreans?View Thread

She is 61 years old and started this about 2 or 3 years ago.
Her weight loss was gradual. slow but sure.
At age 61 she has her teenage body back.View Thread

So I asked her what she eats, if she is following any commercial diet.
She responded she is not following any commercial diet. She said she eats mostly meat and vegetables. She strictly avoids bread and sugars.
That's pretty much it in a nutshell.View Thread

I eat two eggs in the morning, but I consume the yolks which are super high in nutritional value.
I too like coffee and fresh fruit.
But I ditched the refined carbohydrates of cereal and bread. I still eat natural oatmeal, but commercial baked goods are history for me because they make me feel bloated and yucky.View Thread
