Thank you for your input and to feel me better about what I am suspected about fruit and sugar. All the posts I received so far were kinda misleading because no one would really blame on fruit being a negative in some ways. I am glad that your nutritionist gave sound advise and I was glad for that information about smoothies. I used to make one every morning thinking they were healthy until my doc told me to lay off of fruit and smoothies when I am losing weight. Since then I am having Kashi cereal or oatmeal. I was a fan for orange juice for the longest time and now I am looking for low sugar juices in bottles. Thank you for your reply.View Thread
It's been two weeks since we stopped topamax and I feel fine. No side effects since. I posted a lengthy post about my trip to doctor and frustrated with not being losing weight. I cut off all fruit for the time being since the doc cautioned all that fruit is loaded with sugar. I stocked up withh veggies when I shopped and for about 4 days straight I had a nice salad with romaine lettuce, shredded carrots, cucumbers, grape tomatoes. I use light dressing. It really curbed appetite for dinner after eating a nice salad. I also bought spinach leaves and I will make more salads.
I usually buy chicken breasts, skinless and boneless and I cook it different ways except fried. The other day I put two breasts in a pan and put a little olive oil, added chopped garlic and green onions. Put the chicken in and used seasonings and some teriyaki sauce which added more flavor to the chicken. Since I ate a big salad I didnt have any thing with chicken and that was fine. I drink ice tea during summer and bought green tea bags. I have a ice tea maker and when it brews and goes to the pitcher, it makes about 3 quarts. I just my own sweetener in my sipper and some lemon. Hopefully that this new regimen I am doing which shed some weight. I also go to the gymn about 4 times a week and do the elliptical for 30 minutes and use my exercise ball at home. Wish me luck with my new schedule and keeping on tract.
I thought I was doing everything right until I went to the doctor yesterday. Well, i don't have a scale to tell the truth, I judge by my clothes. In my case I am scratching my head because I went to the doc yesterday. When I got on the scale I was more than the last time i was there. I go to the gym here and go on the elliptical machine for 30 minutes straight with the arm bar and leg at same time. Do a steady pace with intensity level at 3. At home I use my stability ball for sit-ups. I told all this to my doctor because i was highly frustrated that I cant lose. I am watching the diet and I eat just chicken, cooked any way except fried. I eat lot of fruit and veggies. I do alot smoothies in the morning with greek yogurt which i love and its good for you.
I told all of this to my doctor, you know what he says: that's the problem, fruit is loaded with sugar. If you are making smoothies every morning with fruit the calories, it's not good idea. I was flabbergasted, never in my wild imagination that I would told that smoothies are not good. He said that fruit are loaded with sugar and is bad when you are trying to lose weight.
I haven't posted here for a while and the last time I came here it was under construction. Usually I go to the exercise room that the apartment complex has but, like in the posts I mentioned before, it's small...it does have a few ellipticals and treadmills and assorted weight machines, but I find that from going there numerous times that my upper thighs were getting muscular and my knees starting to hurt. So the other day I was at the store at the sports section and was browsing the dvds and saw a Pilates dvd. It included a resistance band with it and it had 5 work-out segments for each part of the body. It started with the arms, and the legs, abs, all over section, flexibility, etc.. I already feel it already it in my muscles and its a good feeling. Has anyone here ever did pilates with resistance band. If you never did, it's worth it.
I was at the store the other......routine food shopping, was at the vitamin and health and beauty aisles. We all know there ar...100 or more different diets out there. Anyway, I see the commercials about the "Slimfast 123" diet. The commercials make me laugh.... you have a shake in the morning, have 2 snacks (either a shake or a slimfast bar during the day), then a balanced meal at night. How hard can that be. Right now I doing protein powder shake in the morning and I don't have appetite till around 2 or 3 pm. I do a light lunch, either veggies or sandwich and have a dinner with protein and carbs. The shake thing will be very easy for me.....i would gladly drink 2 shakes a day and one balance meal. Has anyone tried the Slimfast diet....??
Kinda glad that my shows are on hiatus. It was fun....I am sure that many loved Dancing with the Stars, Idol and some prime time shows. There off till next year. Nothing interests me on TV for the summer. Except "Do you think you can Dance". That will the only show I will watch. Since the pool opened I will go to the pool two times a day. During a day, i will swim a little and get some sun. And after dinner I can go back and do major of swimming. I bought a canister of Whey powder to make protein shakes. I make a protein shake at breakfast and I don't have a appetite till around 2 or 3. If i do eat something small, tuna or veggies and light dip, or light cheese. Then I don't a appetite for dinner if i eat at 3. I bought a lot of strawberries when I was shopping, I chopped them, freeze them in baggies for smoothies, deserts, etc.View Thread
Okkk.....you need to know the dynamics of my family to understand (i think). Does anyone have meddling older sisters that tell you what to do ...for your whole life.....and I am in my late 40's....geeez. So my sister from chgo called me and said that my other sister from CA. will be in town at end of weekend and she asked me if i wanted to go there. Of course I will go there to see my sister from calif. Otherwise I wouldn't, you need the story to understand. My sister from Cal is younger than I, she's mellow....like most people from cal. At the other hand, my sister in chgo is like my other sister in Florida, aggressive, meddling. Then my niece is very gabby with two daughters, and a nephew with a spoiled bratty daughter. Well....suffice to say....whenever the whole clan get together I tried to avoid, and give any excuse to not go there.
Needless to say.....since i don't drive, I have to take a train to my sister. My son lives 5 miles away from me, and he doesn't want to drive to see the family (I don't blame him). I think he has motives....don't you think. I don' really mind the train I have my magazines. The only reason I am going there is for my sister in Cal. I have to put up with all the big mouths and bratty kids running around. I know, you want to call me a b**** lol. I just like my peace and quiet, and walk around with my shorts and t-shirt if i want to. I have to list today.....yes. What to bring....I am going saturday. I have to eat certain things, which....i will pack for the trip. Dry things i can pack; I drink whey protein powder 2 times a day. Every morning i drink that for breakfast and then I have protein bars and other things i have to eat. Question: I should not even consider this, if you were me.....going to family...do you think it's offending to say you have your own things to eat.....and you cant really eat their food....??View Thread
I applaud you for your efforts. That's great that your a lifetime member for WW. For a lot of people it's about the accountability and commitment. Was it hard in the beginning to lose weight, or did the weight was steady. My sister that was on Weight watchers would tell me that she lost about 30 lbs or so. I hope that she will continue the good healthy habits. She said the most important is you have to eat about 6 times a day to rev the metabolism.. I love yogurt...for many years. I buy the Light yoplait, like so much sometimes I eat one or two a day. One question.. could too calcium hurt you.View Thread
My sister lives in Florida and we talk on the phone once a week or two. She was on Weight Watchers and she did fantastic. Lost over 30 lbs....she needed it. Before that, she told me that she used to go home after work, eat dinner and sit around. She had no ambition and was tired after work. She decided that she should do something, not only for the weight.....but the heart too. She joined Weight Watchers....went to meetings, watch every point she allowed, she went to a place called "Shapes" after work. I have not seen her since she lost the weight. I talk with today and she stopped Weight Watchers because she knows what to do now as far as the food and points. She said that she can do in on her own. I wondered to myself, If anyone joined Weight Watchers or any diet.....then go and learn about the food and points that they are allowed, and they dropped the group, for whatever reason...like save money. Can they really do on their own. I wondered about that for a long time. What is your opinion about that.
