Just wanted to share this with some of my favorite healthy members!
Earlier today, the USDA replaced the out-dated food pyramid with a new "My Plate" icon to bring more awareness to the recently updated USDA/HHS Dietary guidelines.
"My Plate" is a more eye-catching and much simpler visual guide to how much of each food group we should eat on a daily basis. For your convenience, WebMD has designed a printable version of the plate for our members. We hope you'll print it out and hang it on your fridge for your healthier new lifestyle.
It is time to make our new monthly goals for April! Personally, I am motivated this month with the warm weather approaching and more opportunity to get out and move around. Let's get ready for a great month! Did you meet your March goal? How did you do?
What is your new goal for April? (diet, exercise, weight, whatever?)
My goal is to: exercise, whether elliptical, dvd, biking, etc. for at least 30 minutes 4 days a week to tone my body! I would also like to work on cooking more balanced meals for myself and my little one.View Thread
Our WebMD communities are a wonderful place where members find friendship, support, insight and share ideas. However, there are occasions when a post that is made violates WebMD's Terms and Conditions . We rely on our members to help WebMD maintain a safe and comfortable environment where everyone feels at home.
Please know that no other member will know that you've made a report, nor does reporting a post automatically mean it will be removed. Here are the kinds of posts about which we're concerned:
Personal Attacks (disagreement is NOT an attack)
Inappropriate Member Nicknames
Use of inappropriate slang and/or masked/veiled profanity
Members discussing their personal physicians by name
Members who identify themselves as under 13 year of age
Too much personally identifying information (phone numbers, home addresses, etc)
Posts containing links to inappropriate sites (pornography, etc.)
Posts which are nothing more than erotica or soliciting cyber sex.
Someone planning suicide and needs our help
The best way to handle any such post on our communities is to not reply (other than when someone is in crisis). Instead, you can help your community by alerting the WebMD Community Moderator staff via the "Report This" link found below each post. You even have the opportunity to explain why you are reporting something. The moderator staff will receive that report and will review the post to determine whether or not it violates the WebMD Terms and Conditions or if the person needs crisis intervention. If the message is in violation of our rules, it will be removed along with any replies. Please keep in mind that you should only report posts that you feel are violations of WebMD's Terms and Condition or needs a moderator's crisis intervention. Do not report posts simply because you disagree with the information contained within another member's post.
Thank you for helping to keep our WebMD communities on track. It really does "take a village," and we appreciate everyone who helps us to keep our communities a great place to gather together in our quest to stay happy and healthy.
I have definitely done this many times when I get to my goal weight. I feel good about what I have done, comfortable in my body and clothes, so I decide to splurge and ruin it all?!? Ugh.
I'm sure that you are not alone here! What works for me is being aware of what foods I tend to splurge on and not buying them at all or in small quantities. Of course, a food journal helps tremendously because when you have everything on paper you really see those little bites throughout the day that you often aren't aware of.
What tends to be your weakness when it comes to the splurges?View Thread
Well, you sound like you are on a roll with the exercise, which is great! What do you find to be the hardest part of sticking to a healthy diet? What are the cravings that you have the most trouble with and how would you describe your diet on a daily basis?
Good job listening to your doctor and looking for ways to support your healthy change! I'm sure that the members here can help you with their insight and stories. Please keep us posted. View Thread
I'm in! Starting another month, ready to find the right time to exercise around a work schedule. It is hard, but we CAN find the time.
Ches, let your husband know that you need some time to compete with us and find a healthier, happier new you for the both of you! I am going to start with early morning routines! What about you?
What is your daily diet looking like, now? The members here can really give you some great advice on making changes, so you can take advantage of that kitchen at work! Bring a breakfast/lunch, use the fridge and forget what everyone else is eating! You can feel better again with some motivation. I look forward to hearing more!View Thread
Go Pi! You have had an amazing year already! Keep it up with the brutal elliptical and healthy eating, though I don't doubt you one bit. I'm gonna have to steal the chicken/strawberry kebab idea for my own friends and family! Thanks View Thread
