Friday is my 'free day' so I did have pizza then, but I went to the gym Monday - Saturday last week! Hurray!
Usually weekends wreck my train, but these last 3 weekends I have been very mindful of that, and done my best to reign myself in.
Todays DFJ:
Steel cut oatmeal w/ a dab of peanut butter
Coffee w/ cream and equal
greek yogurt w/ pistachios mixed in, cukes, yellow peppers and radishes dipped in gauc, banana
Coffee w/ cream and equal
Making meatloaf tonight, using 1/2 95% lean beef and 1/2 80%. (Gets to dry if I use only the lean stuff.) Will have asparagus with mine.
My cycle started on Sunday afternoon, and I can report that I did not have one single normal "signal". No cramps, no moodiness. It has to be eating right and exercising. I also am not having any carb cravings.
Twice in the last week people have brought in cake and cookies and I have been able to pass on both! Hurray. These are small victories, but victories none the less!
2 days to weigh day....Keep eating those cupcakes...cupcake!View Thread

Breakfast: oatmeal with a dab of peanut butter and some skim milk
Lunch: mini thinwich w/ crunch peanut butter and banana, cucumbers and red peppers dipped in gaucamole, 1/2 banana
Snack: greek yogurt w/ a few pistachio's mixed in
Dinner: flank steak and sauteed peppers, onions and mushrooms
Also had 2 cups of coffee w/ equal and a bit of cream
Did 30 minutes on the ellipitical and also some resistance training
Random observation about eating right and exercising: it gives me copious amounts of energy. So much so, that sometimes I don't know what to do with it, and my house has never been cleaner, or my laundry so caught up, because I find myself "picking" around a lot to burn this energy!
Pi, thank you so much for your lovely compliment about my "mom" skills. The kids all really do show their appreciation. My daughter is nearly your age, and we have a terrific relationship. She and my son are loving and affectionate, and often declare me, "The best mom in the world." My oldest step daughter is also very close to me. She is my gym partner, willing to go anytime I am, so that is bonding time for us.
Hope you had a wonderful workout. I thought about you and our challenge when I wanted to cop out of the elliptical at 20 minutes....went another 10 and was glad afterwards.View Thread

That is an excellent plan! I love it.
Ok, so my official "Starting Weight" for our contest purposes will be exactly 152.4. (Because I can't remember what the scale said exactly, so that is a good estimation.)
This is perfect b/c that is almost exactly 20 weeks.
You just uber motivated me Pi! Thank you so much. I adore you. FYI.
Hmmm...a suitable prize...I will have to give that some thought!View Thread

I am admitting to being a New Year's Resolution-er.
Normally I don't make resolutions, but this year, my husband was really wanting to start eating better and working out after the Holidays, so we decided to do the resolution thing.
As of Jan 2nd was our first official weigh in, and I started at 159 lbs. As of today I was at 152 lbs. I always drop quickly the first month. I set an aggressive goal to be at 149 lbs on Feb. 1st, and I just might make it! In the following months I will be lucky to do 5 pounds a month. So that is my goal. I would like to reach my goal of 30 lbs lost by June 1st.
Yesterday my determination and motivation got a little kick into high gear. My dearest friend from childhood (we have been best buds since fourth grade) lives about 2 hours away from me. We make it a point to see each other ever 4-6 weeks for a weekend together. She is a very fit, active person, so when we are together we always do something active. She found the deal of a lifetime on Living Social for a trip to Costa Rica, and we have decided that we are doing it!
We have not tied down exact dates yet. We are working on that today, but it will likely be in June.
I am beyond excited, and my resolve to get to the gym no less than 4 times a week, and to eat clean and healthy at least 80% of the time, is seeming less like choices and more like a good game plan.
I am not worried about looking good in a swim suit on the beach. I am recognizing that I seriously have to 'train' for this vacation. My friend is in such good shape that I don't doubt that a large portion of this trip is going to revolve being very active. I forsee hiking, zip lining, climbing, trekking, swimming, scuba diving or snorkling, and any other crazy adventure she can dream up for us...
Please wish me luck, and Pi, could you please call me out if you don't hear from me here or in other venues. That usually means I am slacking!View Thread

Thursday is my official weigh in day, and I weighed in at 153.4 today. I am somewhat annoyed with myself for being here again, when I had gotten down to the 143-145 range before I fell off the wagon. But it is what it is, so I am happy to show a loss for the week. That makes a 1.4 pound loss from last thursday. Not too shabby.
My food journel for today is:
Breakfast: Special K crisps (these have no actual food or nutritional value, they are pop tarts. But they are so good.)
Snack: coffee w/ equal and half and half
Lunch: oatmeal, greek yogurt and a handful of nuts
Snack: more coffee and a peanut butter cookie my bff baked and brought in to the office to share. Only had 1 and thoroughly enjoyed it!
Dinner: chili and 1 slice of whole grain toast w/ peanut butter and honey
Not a stellar day nutrition wise. I actually had a fruit salad to have as my snack with apples, oranges and bananas, but I chose to forgo that for the cookie. I may have the fruit salad with dinner, but I love peanut butter with chili for some reason.
How was kareoke Pi? What did you sing? Did you stick to your plan of diet/vodka?View Thread

I don't mean to hijack your post, but I wanted to just alert Ms. 3.14 that I had fallen off the wagon (and been dragged 20 miles) but I have picked myself up, dusted myself off and am now securely back in the driver's seat.
For whatever reason for about 4-6 weeks I was almost defiantly sabotagging my healthy eating efforts. To some extent, it was comfort eating. Steve was gone quite a bit getting his dad moved. (He is all settled in his retirement community apartment about 3 minutes from our home!) But it was a stressful month, getting his house on the market, moving him, etc...I didn't have to do anything per se, except I was 100% responsible for the kids when he was gone.
I think a small revelation I had was that during times like that, when I am in full-on Mom / supportive wife mode, I feel like I am entitled to and 'owed' treats. I feel like, "Ok, for 18 hours a day I put everyone elses wants and needs first, so if I want to sit in front of the computer and eat chips and dip by the truck load I DESERVE it, because it is all that I do for me." I am trying to turn that mindset around and realize that what I am owed, and what I deserve is to take GOOD care of myself, not to make unwise choices that make me feel bad at the end of the day instead of good and strong and healthy.
So I have been back on track for about a week and a half. The scale shows a loss of about 3.4 pounds, which is probably because I have upped the water and decreased the salt I was consuming.
The weird thing is that I didn't decide to diet, or lose weight or anything like that. I just decided to stop abusing my body with the garbage I was putting into it.
Vodka and diet is my 'diet drink' of choice to Pi. I think you know how I feel about my good friends Stoli and Absolut!!!! Have fun tonight! I will check back here with more status as I go forward.
Hello Roselynn! Very nice to 'meet you'. You and I are very similiar weight wise...I am at 154.2 today. My goal is 135...but would be happy to see 145 at this point!View Thread

I do. I had a perfect eating week last week and from Sunday to Thursday only managed to show a .04 loss on the scale.View Thread

I am so happy that you had such a wonderful trip and a happy birthday.
I am exactly where you are! I was at 146 yesterday. Thursday is my official 'weigh day'. I hope to be a little under that number tomorrow.
The eating plan that I outlined is working perfectly for me! I am still doing basically glorified snacks through the day, and then eating whatever my family has for dinner is an appropriate portion.
I have tweaked my plan so that it works absolutely perfectly for me. I finally figured out, that although breakfast is essential, I am just not a morning eater. I don't feel like eating when I first get up. I have no appetite until about 10:30 AM. So that is when my eating starts.
This was my day yesterday:
Between 8am and 10am I had 2 cups of coffee w/ some half and half and equal.
At 11 I had cucumber slices, radishes and bell peppers w/ lowfat dip and chobani greek yogurt (Lots of protein!)
At 1p I had Kashi pita chips with roasted red pepper hummus and some blueberries
At 3pm I had low fat cottage cheese topped with pistachios
For dinner we had grilled turkey tenderloins with sauteed veggies, (cauli, snow peas, carrots in a little olive oil).
I finished out my day with a dessert of a frozen fruit popcicle.
I am never hungry. The food that I am choosing is of the highest quality, and most importantly I actually LIKE all of it. I am not eating any 'diet' food.
I am losing slowly, about 1 pound a week, but I don't feel like I am on a diet. Its sort of my 'not diet', just a workable eating plan that fits my life.
I also wanted to suggest a book that I read recently and enjoyed. It is called, "Thin is the New Happy" by Valerie Frankel. It is a memoir about a life long struggle with body image issues deeply rooted in the authors childhood.
Keep us posted on your progress!View Thread

Glad to read an update on your health and fitness plan.
Since it is so freaking hot here, I am feeling 'grazie' these days.
I have been in the mood to just snack instead of eat a heavy meal, and its working really well.
For example, today was my "monday" after the holiday weekend, which I way indulged in, so I didn't feel like breakfast, so after my 2 cups of coffee in the a.m. I brought snacks for the remainder of my work day.
I had veggies and dip and a boiled egg at 11:30. Then at 1:00p I had cottage cheese topped with some sunflower seeds. At 3p I had a chobani yogurt. Dinner is going to be salmon patties w/ brown rice and pinto beans. Trying to keep my protein very lean, and lots of it, plus good quality complex carbs.
Normally, I would have the boiled egg for breakfast, and lunch would be veggie and fruit based.
Then later I will have a snack not to exceed 140 cals, to round out my day at 1200 calories. This will likely be another veggie based snack plus a bit of fruit since I haven't had enough of either today. I find it helpful to keep this snack open to add in low fat dairy, fruits or veggies, whatever I am low in for the day.
Lots of water to stay hydrated, and no exercise today due to the kid schedule, but laundry and cleaning the kitchen will keep me moving.View Thread

I did about 1300-1500 calories per day. Eliminated white foods. Swapped out whole grains for white grains, sweet potatoes for white potatoes, etc...
I also lowered my carb intake. I started having 2 boiled eggs for breakfast, and a big salad for lunch, and nuts or cheese for snacks.
I work out as well. A min of 4 days of cardio and some strength every day.
I went from a size 12 on Feb 28th, 2011 to a size 8 on May 6th. (Had a shopping trip, and tried on the smaller size on that day!)
I was and continue to be very disciplined 5 days a week, and then on Fridays I allow myself up to 2000 cals, as this is me and hubbys date night, and on Sunday's I allow for a dessert. I try to keep it at 300 cals or less than the top of my calorie range. (So Sunday I plan to eat at about 1800 cals.)
Those little 'treat' days keep me on track when I want to splurge during the week, I remind myself that I will then have to cut back on my planned 'splurge days', and sometimes I wait, and sometimes I dont. I do keep it in check though.
Just make your goal to be smaller by the Honeymoon. Even if you are only 10-15 pounds less, you will feel fantastic.
Congrats on the wedding by the way. Enjoy your day to the fullest!View Thread
