Just curious if you include all liquids in your water intake. This site says I should drink 64 oz of water a day. I drink about 65 if I include the 3 cups of coffee I drink. Not sure if that's considered water??? Anyone???View Thread

If you are going through Hell, keep going.-- Winston Churchill
Things are kind of settling down finally. My three weekends in the cities went very well and I so happy I was able to get down there for all of the festivities.
The second weekend I went to my sister's graduation after having had surgery on Wednesday. The surgery went really well. It was quick and the pain immediately after the surgery was less than it was before. The two scars have been healing well and I had the stitches out last week.
The surgeon repaired some damaged cartilage and ground down some bone spurs. We are all hoping that this will delay a knee replacement for a few years.
My husband is out of the woods. After they discovered the kidney failure they did a ton of tests, all of which were painful for him since they involved entering his body through a sensitive area. The urologist had asked my husband if he had ever broken his pelvis and he did in our car accident two years ago. They found that it had damaged his prostate and it needed some work. They did a "TURP" procedure (look it up if you're interested). The surgery took a couple of hours and he stayed over one night in the hospital. This was on Friday, and on Tuesday they took the catheter out to see if he could void. They decided he could go without it and we came home. The next day he had gone eleven hours without voiding so we called the surgeon. He said that he had a 2:00 opening and if he hasn't gone by noon to come in. at 10:00 he passed a blood clot and has been able to void since then. He still has blood in his urine, but they said that could last up to six weeks. He can't life more than five pounds for another four weeks, so I'm glad my knee is feeling better so I can help him out.
I'm slowly getting back into a routine and it's kind of hard after being out of things for so long. But my biggest step is getting back into a healthy lifestyle. I know that after I've been doing this longer than five months I'll be able to maintain the lifestyle through anything, but this time I wasn't able to. But I'm back in the saddle and it feels great.
I'll be able to start walking this week and I'm excited. Our snow is finally gone
and our grass and trees are green. We even had a fabulous spring thunderstorm last night.Thank you again for always being here even when I'm gone for a while.

How did it happen that I open the post?>
Here's my rundown: I ate 40 grams of white flour carbs at lunch yesterday. This was a disaster. The rest of the day I was hungry, cranky and bloated. It kicked off an unhealthy eating spree.
So, Smug Sharon, who found it so easy to stick to a low carb diet has had her comeuppance. Back to low carb drawing board.
Weight 225.8 +3 from yesterday
breakfast:
water and two scrambled eggs with 2 T skim milk
Let's get out there and kick some butt (our own, preferably)
Love and Cocker Spaniel kisses,
SharonView Thread

I've lost 39 lbs (and holding again, sigh), I spend 5 days each week, for at least one hour, at the gym on treadmill and reclining bike, or walking the track. I still eat just under 1/4 cup of food per meal. I haven't felt hungry, or pain in weeks, and I don't have any real cravings... its more of 'missing crunching, chewing, or scents of certain foods' but not actually wanting to eat them.
I have found out my friends have ordered 'fashion catalogs' to be sent to my house now. lol... they said I should get into the mind frame of buying clothes that 'don't hide my body so much' lol. Its one of the reasons they are my friends... they keep me on my toes!
My moods are very upbeat lately, I am enjoying meeting people, and just hanging out with out the need to 'order something to eat', and I'm enjoying cooking bbqs for my friends with out needing to 'sample' the foods. I cook now for the shear pleasure of it, not to eat. Instead I invite friends over to join me for a great meal, and while they eat, I chatter away to my hearts content.
Things are improving daily. Thank you for being in cyberspace and on this path with me.View Thread

So, Brokeinside, I googled the Phillippines.
Which Island do you live on?
Do we HAVE to continue calling you broke? It's not an uplifting name for you or us to use for you ...
Like what types of the foods listed are readily available to you , that you CAN fix for yourself, and that you can afford. Also, sweety, do you live alone or with the extended family?
Also. do you have clean drinking water at all times?
I'm not trying to make you feel bad about your circumstances, I'm trying to get a better "view" of your situation for our community in order for us to help you make better choices if they are available to you.
Food in Daily Life. Filipinos do not consider it a meal if rice is not served. Plain steamed rice is the basis of the diet. Three crops a year are harvested to provide enough rice for the population, and the government keeps surpluses stored for times of drought. Salt water and freshwater of fish and shellfish are eaten daily, served either fresh or salted. Fish, chicken and pork are usually fried, although people are becoming more health-conscious and often choose alternative methods of cooking. Garlic is added to food because it is considered healthful. Filipino food is not spicy. All food is cooked on gas burners or wood or charcoal fires and is allowed to get cold before it is eaten. Rice is cooked first, since it takes longer. When it is ready, rice will be placed on the table while the next items of the meal are prepared and served.
Table knives are not used. Forks and spoons are used for dining. The food is eaten from a spoon. The traditional method of placing food on a banana leaf and eating with one's hands is also used throughout the country. It is acceptable to eat food with one's hands at restaurants as well as in the home.
Breakfast is served at 6 A.M. and consists of food left over from the night before. It is not reheated. Eggs and sausage are served on special occasions. Small buns called pan de sol may be purchased from vendors early in the morning.
At midmorning and in the afternoon, people eat merienda. Since Filipinos are fond of sweet foods, a mixture of instant coffee, evaporated milk, and sugar may be served. Coca-Cola is very popular. Sweet rolls, doughnuts, or a noodle dish may be available. Lunch is a light meal with rice and one other dish, often a fish or meat stew. Fish, pork, or chicken is served at dinner with a soup made of lentils or vegetables. Fatty pork is a favorite. Portions of small cubes of browned pork fat are considered a special dish.
Fruits are abundant all year. Several kinds of banana are eaten, including red and green varieties. Mangoes, the national fruit, are sweet and juicy. A fruit salad with condensed milk and coconut milk is very popular on special occasions.
Vegetables are included as part of a soup or stew. Green beans and potatoes are commonly eaten foods. The leaves of camote, a sweet potato, are used as a salad and soup ingredient. Ube, a bland bright purple potato, is used as a colorful ingredient in cakes and ice cream. Halo-halo, which means "mixture," is a popular dessert that consists of layers of corn kernels, ice cream, small gelatin pieces, cornflakes and shaved ice. Patis, a very salty fish sauce, is placed on the table to be added to any of the dishes.
Fast food has become part of the culture, with national and international chains in many towns. All meals at fast-food restaurant include rice, although French fries also tend to be on the menu. Banana ketchup is preferred, although the international chains serve tomato ketchup.

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.-Philippians 4:13
On that day, nobody is aware of how many pieces I eat and boy do I eat a lot. So I was thinking: how can I make this over?
Usually I drink Coca-cola so this time it will be unsweetened seltzer or iced tea. But what do I do about the rest of the Menu and any ideas for controlling myself?
Heres the menu:
Popeyes fried chicken
biscuits
fried onion rings
red beans and rice
mashed potatoes
cole slaw
potato salad
cookies
watermelon
Your wisdom will be appreciated.View Thread

Let's face it we all have old worn cursed habits we would like to trade in for new positive blessed habits. And eating habits are some of the hardest to trade in. Duhigg says that people have much more difficulty discarding old, bad habits if they don't substitute new good habits.
What about you? What bad habits have you traded for good habits, and made it stick for 6 months or more?

Best guess takes all
MY CHALLENGERS WORKED ON THE ANSWER FOR THE COMEDY SKIT and COMPLETELY OVERLOOKED THE CANDY BAR question....
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC... can YOU answer this trivia question?
*******************************************
Prior to WWII, This well known chocolate covered and chocolate flavored candy bar was VERY different.
Both in number of pieces and in flavorings, this bar changed because the flavorings became hard to come by.
question:
WHAT WAS THIS CANDY BAR , WHAT WERE THE FLAVORS AND HOW MANY PIECES DID IT ORIGINALLY HAVE?
