If hunger is not the problem, then eating is not the solution.---author anonymous
If you are going through Hell, keep going.-- Winston Churchill
Don't know if anyone else is in the way of this one, other than me... :.$
It's been pushing rain in front of it for a couple of days now, off and on showers just mainly overcast but still quite warm (mid to high 70s) . Tonight all that is supposed to change for us. TStorms with High wind gusts up to 35 mph and it may, MAY just cool off to the high 30s.... grrrrrrr. Although wouldn't it be something to have a few snowflakes in May in Louisiana??? I'd almost have to freeze em, for posterity.

My dad was a "functioning alcoholic". He held a job, never called in sick, worked after hours painting houses, fished, hunted, played poker with friends.... but everyone knew. He hid half pints of Black Velvet in the kitchen cupboards and in the closet in the sewing room and in the bathroom vanity and in the closet in the bedroom and in the hutch in the dining room...... and would start his day with "nips" and would continue to do so throughout the day until bedtime. And sometimes if he had to get up to use the rr at night.... yes.. again. I can't remember a time during my lifetime that he didn't, so it was at least 35 years....
My oldest sister was the perfect example of "flower child". She dropped acid, smoked pot, took various pharmaceuticals.... even wrote home one time about how she'd tried "LUV" , a formaldehyde laced joint. Yes, the same stuff they embalm with..... Plus the alcohol, of course.....
I think I maybe have this food addiction, this sounds like me. Does it sound like you?

One thing that I forgot to mention about my doctor's appointment last week was that I'm getting shorter! I have been 5'10" since I was 18-years-old. Now I'm 5'8.5"! Holy cow! I had to change my height on my Food and Fitness Planner to see how that affected my BMI and healthy weight range. Not only did those change, but my maximum calorie intake decreased by 19. That's a lot of calories when you're counting.
I guess it's not a huge thing, but I have always enjoyed being tall and the benefits of it (well, not so much when I was a teenager because I hated being different). It kind of concerns me that I'm shrinking but my doctor wasn't worried. Have any of you experienced the same? I am only 47-years-old (48 next week in case you're going to bake me a healthy cake
) and I have been through menopause because of my hysterectomy (sorry if that's TMI). I would appreciate your wisdom! Our show is almost gone which is such a blessing, but it's only 30 degrees this morning....brrrrrrr!
Have a wonderful day everybody! Here's to our health!

I fessed up just after Easter to having slipped down the slope well slathered with Easter Bunny poop( ie. Jelly Beans).
The Sunday following Easter, I topped back out at 187.6..... and figured I'd best be looking at how I was eating.
My bf and I had been discussing meal replacements. I mainly wanted to focus on Protein and Fiber above all else. Mainly because these are the things that metabolise slower and keep you fuller longer. Right?
Ok. With this in mind we started using the Ensure high protein low fat shakes for lunch 3 days a week and the other two, using the Cliff's Builders bars as meal replacement.
Did it work as well as I wanted? Well I went from the 187.6 to 179.6 and have been steady for a few days on that number. So I guess so.... The downside of these of course is the carbs. If you don't want the carbs then it isn't for you.
What I found is as follows; Ensure 210 cals, 23 grams of Protein, Cliff's Builder's bar 270 cals, 25 grams of protein
first day with the Ensure shake. Both vanilla and choc are really good. They need to be ICE cold and shaken well before drinking.
I had chocolate. I drank it in sips followed up with water to take up about 20 min of "eating" time. Was full and the fullness lasted about 3 hours. My bf can drink one with his water and work the rest of his shift, another 4 hours without feeling hungry.
The next day, we tried the Builder's bars for lunch. I had the chocolate one and my bf took the choc peanut butter one. The choc is really rich, but kinda dry tasting. Sorta like it's made with protein powder. Not bad, just different. For sure, after the first bite being the size of one I'd take from a Snickers, I had to take smaller ones. I just about choked trying to get that bite chewed up and swallowed, too dry for big bites. Smaller bites, bit bigger than nibbles, followed by LOTS of water. These things have quite a bit of fiber too. I just about couldn't eat the whole thing. Had to push to get it down. Just seemed like too much. But in order to do the research I ate it. Personally, after trying the choc peanut butter (which is admittedly creamier and tastier, but for me, would cause problems with wanting more) the chocolate one is my favorite of the bars. keeps you full for 3-4 hours , no sweat.
BUT, and herein lies the rub. These things are sweet. And if you tend to want salties and sweets or MORE sweets after eating your sweets, this is not for you.
It's sort of a balancing act. I've caught myself wanting to be naughty the last couple of days. So I'm making sure that I'm pushing to get my walks in.
Really not sure if its the exercise or the way I'm eating but perhaps my plateau is at least in remission, lol

Ha ha ha, nice one about the artist description. I'm more like a dusty old southwest artist, with a paintbrush in one hand and a bottle of Dos Equis in the other. Things are all right, I've been steadily adding things to the DA account.
I've actually been here almost every day, just haven't had much to say most of the time. Things are busy and stressful at work right now, not a lot of time to walk as I'd like to, and my food choices haven't been the healthiest of late.
But at least I am doing art on the weekend. Know what is sapping my strength most? Interpersonal stuff... that's the real killer. If I can have a good weekend without fights stemming from inssertion of my foot into my mouth, it's a lot easier to deal with work and stress and whatnot.View Thread
If at First, You don't Succeed, Try, Try Again!!!!
Failure is not an option when Success requires just a little more effort!
Hope everyone is having a great day. The end of April is already upon us and I am going to have another birthday over 200 lbs. Not happy about that. It's my own fault, no one to blame but myself. I'll get there. Did it once. I can do it again.View Thread

I am tired today so what did I do? At target I picked up a small bag of mini chocolate covered Little Debbie doughnuts for $1.99. Cheap but I ate most of the bag, and they do not taste like chocolate, or doughnuts, or even food.
I am certified crazy. 8-O Why does it have to be so hard to stick to consuming nutritious real food? Don't even want to get on the scale or exercise. BAD ME. I know, bad choice, not bad me, but still. ARGGH. And I know the drill, try again, but I keep caving to the wrong food.

I decided that it was time to see my doctor for a complete physical. I wanted to talk to her about my lifestyle changes as far as my eating habits and make sure she agreed with how I am doing it.
She was the first person who has noticed my weight loss (other than my husband and kids who know I am working on it.) I was getting kind of frustrated that I have lost 31 pounds and nobody has noticed. She not only noticed, but was full of praise. She thinks that the path I am on to lose weight is healthy and helpful. So nice to hear.
For some reason, all of my vitals and blood tests were wonderful. Blood pressure 120/70, pulse 68. My cholesterol is 193, but my HDL and LDL were in the good range. My glucose was 78 so not even pre-diabetes. All of my other tests were in the normal range as well.
I am blessed that my unhealthy lifestyle has not given me much for health problems, except for my knees and my back. I can get new knees, but not a new heart (actually I guess I could.)
This was just my way of patting myself on the back. We all need those!
Spring is finally arriving here in northern Minnesota! We were in the 50's yesterday and are supposed to be in the 60's today and 70's soon. I am so hoping that these snow piles disappear quickly so we can start seeing some grass! The sunshine and ability to take our storm windows down and put the screens on has been a huge lift for my mood. And the birds are coming back and are singing happily! My grandson who lives with us turned one-year-old yesterday. He is getting more rambunctious but is still a joy every day. We bought him a swing (it's kind of set up like a car seat) to put up outside and I can't wait until he can use it!
So, all in all, a couple of good days. I hope that you are all experiencing the same!

Here's the "SWAP". You know I always freeze my over-ripe bananas for smoothies, oatmeal or food processor "ice cream". But you can tak a whole frozen banana and drizzle some no sugar chocolate syrup, a sprinkle of mini-chocolate chips and a sprinkle of chopped walnuts.
Very yummy and fast and you use one bowl, a knife to slice frozen banana (after it thaws a few mins.) and a spoon to eat it. I put all the toppings on before I sliced it.

1. High Blood Pressure
2. Type 2 Diabetes
The problems were getting worse as I continued to over eat, consume junk food, and alcohol. When your feet start to go numb, and your blood sugar level is 190 with medications, I've seen the anle so to speak and have decided to get in shape and healthy.
Yes, it is true that some people have these problems as a genitic thing, and it can't be helped. I on the other hand hope that by loosing 85-100 pounds will possibly make it so I do not need the meds to survie the issues. I started out at 285 and am steadily loosing, and I am now at 265. Food and drink habits have chaged for the positive and I will continue to reach my goal and stay there. In just 20 pounds I notice the positive difference.View Thread

Does anyone know what is appropriate to give to a niece's new baby boy? I have her a crib sheet and bath toy at the baby shower a couple weeks ago.View Thread

So, I don't know a whole lot about this kind of stuff. I have never had blood work done for tests like these. However, I am pretty sure that my HDL is way too low and I need to raise that. What do yall think? I'm sure yall know more about these things than I do...View Thread

In the last week i have not worked out, not once. Dont get me wrong, i want to work out, but i just dont. I set the time aside and end up just sitting on my butt or do house work. UGH! I swear, every time that i set out to lose weight, it is the motivation part of it that gets me lost.
Any ideas?View Thread
