Remember the Gold is not in the prize it's in the Journey
life may not be the Party we expected but while we are here we may as well dance
I will be shopping today and get some fresh vegies and fruit ready for my weekend. I did extra walking yesterday and I gained a pound I have to get my act together and find a way to get that scale moving in the downward direction..
I really did try hard this past week and I am sort of confused
but OK because maybe I am growing some muscle I did my weight lifting and walked extra did my household duties Body is being stubborn .. I will never give up

So it has been about three weeks since i have wanted a heathier life.
There has not been much change in weight yet. Just in my life style.
So far i have stopped drinking soda, stopped eating heavy snacks at my desk. All i eat at my desk any more is seeds and nuts and sometimes fruit. I have been driking tons of water, coffee (as black as i can stand) and juice.
I went and had a physical (the first one since i was 12) everything looks great and so does my blood work
The next major step is joining the gym. I think i am terrified of this part and i dont know why. I have been to gyms before, but this time, i just really dont want to go. But luckly, i have a husband that is going to go with me to get the membership, so it should help

I hope this next step works!View Thread
Don't want to get this started too late into the month and NO this isn't an April Fool joke!
Hydrate 64 oz. daily.
Eat cleaner.
Watch sodium.
Portion control.
Stop after dinner snacking (the unplanned ones).
Stop eating the chips.
Move more.
Clear house clutter.
Wow, I was only planning on 3, but it turned into 8 that really need my attention.
As usual I will post weekly progress or derails and re-sets.
Hope everyone had a nice Easter. Summer's not too far off.

Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. - Albert Einstein
I'm watching the documentary, "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead," about a guy who kicked off a healthier lifestyle by eating only by juicing for 60 days. That's sounds extreme, but I wanted to see his story.
I have no sweets in the house, and I survived without processed sugar today. It isn't anything to toot my horn about, unless you know my habits. I do have to buy a few groceries tomorrow and will make sure I keep some fruit on hand to satisfy my sweet tooth. I know our tastebuds can be retrained, so I'm trying to be a good parent to myself. I know most everyone says sweets are okay in moderation, but for right now, they really aren't for me because I'm not able to be moderate with sweets. I'm just going to take one day at a time - one meal at a time - and see where it leads. I'm just experimenting a bit.
I'm trying to require more from myself. I'm not willing to settle for where I'm at. I'm worth fighting for. I'm also tired of letting my emotions dictate what I eat. I've been only existing my whole life. Before I get too old, I want to know what it feels like to be a normal weight and to be able to DO things and to live, not just exist. Sometimes I feel like I'm already too late. I'm much too young to have to use a cane to exercise, but it is what it is. It doesn't have to be permanent. This is just where I'm at today.
You are worth fighting for, too.View Thread

My insomnia this week has caught up to me. It's about 9:15, and, believe it or not, I'm headed to BED soon. I want to get my nights and days turned back around anyway. I work a bit of a second shift, so it's easy to stay up much too late at night. I've been taught, too, that the hours of sleep BEFORE midnight are much more restorative to the body than those hours AFTER midnight. I very rarely even get to bed before midnight, but I will try harder to aim that direction.
My ONE thing I've been working on this week is not eating late at night. My cutoff time is about 7, which isn't late for me, but I know it may sound a little late to some people. Been doing pretty good with that this week, only messed up a couple of times, partly because eating at night is a habit and I would go and eat something and then realize the time. Oopsy. Will continue with that agenda - not eating at night - and this coming week I will focus on getting better sleep habits going.
I read (SOMEWHERE here, ha!) that part of good sleep habits is reserving the bedroom just for sleep or sex, which is interesting to hear that again because just a few weeks ago my therapist told me the exact same thing. Our bodies do best with routine, and doing similar evening routines signals our bodies that we are getting ready for sleep, and reserving the bedroom only for sleep is also a signal to our body that we are headed for la-la-land.
That magnesium info is interesting, too. Unsure what that site is or it's trustworthiness, but it's certainly worth looking into for corroboration. I'm trying to eat more bananas and nuts because I don't like milk either and only use soy milk when I need a milk-type product, like with my oatmeal.
Well, I was just paid today, then I paid what bills I could, bought minimal groceries, pet food, and put some gas in the car, and that will have to do until next payday in 2 weeks. I hate running this close to 0, but it is what it is right now. The upswing is that it will be much easier to be good with my food these next 2 weeks! This will be a good time to figure out what to do instead of eat when stressed, depressed, angry, etc. I have a journal I've been neglecting and will probably dust that off and use it, for one thing.
Thanks for listening.View Thread

I am new to this board and new at posting. I am mostly lurking on the pain management site. I will admit to lurking In the shadows on this board. I figure I would come out and say HELLO
Here Is A little info about me
I have fibro plus 3 ruptured disc in my neck.
I love animals. I have 2 mastiffs 12 ducks 5 rabbits and 5 guinea hens ( would have a mini donkey if my husband would let me lol)
As of april 17 th It will mark my 3rd month of being smoke free (yeah for me) I smoked for 35 years.
Okay enough about me lol Between quiting smoking and a medication I was on I have gained 45 lbs not good.
I have switched medication so hopfully that will help some.
Exercise Is hard for me, do to a lot of pain but I have been walking on the tread mill every other day I have worked my way up to 30 min.
I hope to reach at least 45 min every other day soon.
Do any of you have other suggestions as to what else I could do besides walk that is low impact?
Thanks DebView Thread

Boy it seems like when stuff hits, it's always more than one thing. We had the garage door, computer, the seemingly small car rear-end hit & run (ended up $3,400 in insurance).
Just don't let this throw you into crazy eating. GRRR!
Let me know how it goes. Hugs your way!

Ok, so I admit that I "swirled" and salted my first radish. Not bad. The butter did indeed smooth out the peppery taste. So , onward.
Oven to 425, rinsed and trimmed my radishes, then dried with a paper towel.
Toss in a ziplock with a tad bit of olive oil to coat.
Roast on raised edge cookie sheet, or a cake pan or whatever
5-6 min , then shake to roll around , then another 6 min or so, depending on the size of your radishes.
Mine came out looking just like roasted little "new" red potatoes.
We tried them with lite salt. Good
We tried them with cajun seasoning, not so good
We tried them with garlic powder and lite salt.... HEAVEN
They taste a bit like potatoes, but if a bit underdone, they taste more like cauliflower.
Either way. A REALLY good alternative to potatoes since they only have 4 g of carbs to every cup of sliced (about 10 radishes) VS the 68 g of carbs in a 3" potato AND they cook up so fast that I can see this is gonna be the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship.

By the way, powdered clove mixed in water and shaken vigorously makes a great mouthwash. Makes my mouth taste clean and it is an anesthetic that helps to soothe my gums. Just an 89 cent bag of cloves, mixed into a quart gatorade bottle of water, and kept under the counter, works fine. I added some cinnamon leaf oil to mine and have ideas for a better recipe, but this seems to work fine.View Thread
