Hmmm...I have never had that issue of feeling waterlogged when I drink and don't have enough salt. My blood pressure has been really good since cutting the sodium so I guess I will stick with what works. But it is annoying. If I want to eat a piece of string cheese, for instance, it is only 50 calories and satisfying but the sodium level is ridiculous. Oh well.
I feel for you having to drive 40 minutes each way. Where do you live that it is so hot? Here in Southern California it is humid and we are all out of sorts over it. We are such spoiled brats with our weather!View Thread
I only like spicy hummus. I actually eat it with my fresh veggies almost every day. Goes best with yellow peppers. Yum! I tried making my own and put chili infused oil in it. SO good! Unfortunately, one of the ingredients, Tahini, is a little too pricey for me, so I get my hummus at the 99 Cent Store.View Thread
I've been in this position before, Holly. If it is just once a month, I'd bring something healthy to share that YOU like. Bring a veggie platter and hummus, fruit tray, or make a light dessert like the ones where you mix soda and cake mix. I made cupcakes with Funfetti cake mix and Diet Cherry 7-Up and then top it with whipped frosting that you make with fat free Cool Whip and sugar free pudding. If everyone sees you losing weight and getting healthy, they might even want to jump on the bandwagon with you at some point and bring healthy snacks themselves. Ya never know.
I'm wondering what you feel when you don't get enough salt. I watch my sodium intake like a hawk (1,500mg per day) but I also sweat a lot when I work out. Maybe I am one of those shortchanging myself on salt? I'd love to be able to have a little more salt!
As for pizza, we have place close to me called Pieology, with whole wheat pizza crust, and then you can choose what you want on it. I use a little Ricotta cheese and Parmesan cheese, fresh tomatoes rather than the sauce which has more sodium, and then all kinds of veggies on it. The whole pizza is about 800 calories and I will eat that over two meals. We can't be giving up stuff like pizza!
I feel for you, Holly. I went through this last week when I felt guilty about eating donuts two days in a row. Then I ate horribly on the 4th of July even though there was healthy food available. My son works for Domino's and had to work on the 4th so he brought home dinner for himself and even after all the food I had during the day, I picked at his leftovers when I wasn't even hungry. However, I tracked every bit of food I ate that day on Sparkpeople, and it was a real ugly eye opener how easy it is to gain back the weight and make yourself sick with too much sugar, carbs, sodium, etc. So, I suggest that if you eat 4 Starbursts and kettle corn and a box of your kid's cereal (which, sadly, I have done before), journal it. I found that seeing what I was doing to my body in black and white had a positive effect on me. I'm back on track and the 2 pounds I gained are gone again. That doesn't mean I'll never have a bad day again because food is my arch enemy every single weekend (I'm already dreading Chinese food on Saturday) but we can all do this. Hang in there! The tough times suck but they will pass and all of your cheerleaders here will help you and celebrate with your during the good days ahead. BTW, are you from Hollywood? I am! MarciView Thread
Aww...thanks for the welcome back, Kim. I'll try to stick around this time. I probably am the same Marci who came back in 2013 but I'm too old to remember. LOL By the way, those tacos look awesome but I had to laugh when I saw that you flipped them over the edge of a bookshelf to harden up. That is some serious cooking there! My meals are boring in comparison!
I did have a question about Diet Mafia--are the same people on there posting here? I don't know where to post my meals!
Welcome back, Judy! I'm trying to get back into the swing of things and post on here regularly. I don't think there is anyone here who remembers me anymore, other than Judy and Amber, so I will introduce myself. I'm Marci, and I live in south Orange County, California. Back in 2010 I was a regular here, then had some female issues that kept me mainly from exercising, so I took a break. Came back again but then changed jobs and was way too busy to participate. But, here I am again--still trying to be healthy. I'm also on Facebook on the Diet Mafia site and hope to get to know you all better. I've just started logging my food again (on Sparkpeople) and am happy to be here!
Thanks so much for posting that link. In the bigger photo I can see that the beans I saw were actually peanuts. LOL Still no nutrition info though. I don't do Pinterest because everyone I know who does is addicted but I do have to admit I see some pretty interesting stuff on there when I do go on the site.
