Debbie, 10 push ups are NOT pitiful! When I started, I couldn't even do 5 on my knees. Right now, I've worked up to 3 sets of 8, real style. But they still KILL. I'm convinced that no matter how strong I get, pushups will ALWAYS kill. They're not cool. And never will be, in my book!View Thread

I'm still hanging around. Trying to catch up on reading all the posts. It's been a crazy week around here, with lots of exciting stuff going on.
As of yesterday, I am officially "retired". My last daycare child went off to preschool and I've chosen not to replace any. It's just me and my boys now! I'd like to say I'll be around here more often now, but the truth is, I probably won't! I have so many plans with my new-found freedom. I'm afraid I'll be even busier now that I'm not working
My step-daughter begins her senior year in a couple of weeks, my step-son begins junior high, and my little boys and I will begin home pre-school.
My husband also got an offer for a new job this week. It will involve a commute for him, but the trade off in sales and benefits will be worth it. So lots of adjusting there, too.
My Run for God class is spectacular! It's growing every week; last week's roster was 68 people! 68!!! I cannot believe I'm a part of something so big. I can see outstanding things coming from this class, for the students and for me.
I don't often have time to respond to many posts because I peek in on my phone and it's hard to type on. But know that I'm reading and keeping track of everyone!View Thread

Some other "little" goals you can add week to week:
Switch grain products to whole grains
Switch dairy to low- or non-fat
Increase exercise time by 5 or 10 minutes/day
Try a new food every day for a week
Measure everything you eat for a week
There are so many to choose from; pick one and get started!
I believe the most important thing you can do is count calories. It doesn't matter how healthy you eat; if you eat too much, you will not lose weight! And along with that goes measuring EVERYTHING! Eyeballing or guessing portion sizes doesn't work. You can't count calories if you don't know how much you're eating! Read labels and measure out portion sizes or weigh foods that aren't labeled.
Good luck, and keep coming back!View Thread

As far as interacting with other drugs, PLEASE SEE YOUR DOCTOR!!! Those are all drugs not to be messed with. We cannot give medical advice. I did a tiny bit of research just now. HCG is used in some infertility treatments for women. Based on that, I'd say there's a good chance it may affect your birth control. And you definitely don't want to mess around with unknown substances while on psych meds. Again, please see your doctor.View Thread

They contacted me and sent the photographer months ago. I didn't want to announce anything until I knew it was going to be published. What a pleasant surprise

My grandfather and father did not pass away due to their heart attacks. They weren't very clear on that. In fact, my father just finished cardiac rehab and is back to work next week!
Thank you all!

I've been I have been so busy these last few weeks. I am facilitating a "Run for God" class at my church. The first class was last night. It's going to be an incredible experience for me. I'm definitely stepping outside of my comfort zone to do this. I was expecting a class of 15-20 people...last night we had 57!!! If you had told me a year and a half ago that I'd be teaching a class about running, I'd have called you crazy. Just goes to show you never know where life will take you!
I hope everyone's summer is going well! I can't believe it's the middle of July already

I second the Couch to 5K program! I started it a little over a year ago and had great success! The program starts off slow, with run/walk intervals and gradually builds you up to running a 5K (3.1 miles) or running for 30 minutes. I can't say enough for the program. It literally changed my life! Here's a link to the site: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
If you're looking to rebuild muscle, you'll also need to do some strength training. I'm currently doing a program called "The New Rules of Lifting for Women". I believe there is a men's version as well; you can find the book online. There are also lots of free programs online, youtube, etc.
I also use an online food tracker at www.myfitnesspal.com Most of the trackers are basically the same; you just have to find one you like. I like myfitnesspal because I have the app on my phone, and that makes for easy tracking!

Just had some thunderstorms roll through, though, and now it's comfortable. AND...my 10-day forecast is BEAUTIFUL!!! Low to mid-80's and some days in the 70's! All nice and sunny, too. Perfect
Keep safe in your heat!View Thread
Most of the trackers have a huge amount of options for all kinds of food, including restaurant food. If you cannot find an exact match in the database, find something as similar as possible.
For instance, we ate at a local Mexican restaurant the other night. I had chips and salsa. Of course, I didn't know EXACTLY how many calories it was. But I chose chips and salsa from a comparable restaurant and entered that so I could have a general idea. The same will hold true for you. If you have, say, a hamburger at work, search "hamburger" on one of the databases. There will probably be many choices; I tend to use a choice with higher calories, just to be on the safe side

When you are able to make your own food, it's essential that you measure portions, either with a scale or measuring cups/spoons. It's very hard to "eyeball" portions, especially in the beginning. By correctly measuring, you will certainly be able to know how many calories you are eating.
Can you find the time, maybe on the weekend, to better prepare for the week? Pre-make healthy lunches and snacks that you can just grab and go during the week when you're busy. I like to boil enough eggs for the whole week and keep them in the fridge. I cut up fruits and vegatables as soon as I get home from the grocery store so they're ready to go. You can pre-make salads, wraps, little individual containers of cottage cheese, etc. A few minutes spent during free time can make the week so much easier and healthier!View Thread
