it has been awhile since I have posted on this wonderful site. I have lost 65lbs to date. I finally hit 174lbs which marks my transition from morbidly obese, obese, overweight to healthy weight! I am still off my diabetes and blood pressure medicine. I also am transitioning from vegan to fruitarian. I feel great and the weight is still coming off although much slower than when I first began my journey. My new goal is 145lbs and I am planning on running a marathon in September.View Thread

I am 44 years old so to some I might be considered young but my kids think I am ancient! I used to be in the military and was blessed to have many coworkers that took time to show me how to exercise properly and safely. I went on youtube to get some refreshers. I worked very hard and kept pushing myself to do another 5 minutes. I would like to eventually work with a personal trainer to motivate me a bit more. Each person is different. I think as long as we do as much as we safely can be it five minutes or an hour it all pays dividends.View Thread

I used to eat processed foods, junk food and lots of meat. My doctor has been telling me for years that I was obese and needed to lose weight. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes which means I needed to take medication daily. I disdain having to take pills so I asked my doctor what I needed to do to get off the meds. He told me to cut out foods with starch such as rice, potatoes, white bread and fruit drinks. He stated that I should exercise as well. I stopped eating red meat. I baked chicken or fish with lemon, olive oil, garlic, jalapenos, etc. I would have oatmeal for breakfast or yogurt. I have a Facebook account and was surfing around for vegetarian recipes and I came across a person named Durianrider. He is a cyclist, a marathon runner and a vegan. I was fascinated by his diet. He based his diet on a book called 80/10/10 by Dr. Douglas Graham. It is primarily a fruit based diet and you do not have to calorie restrict. I was very interested in this as I was always hungry. I have been vegan over two months. First month was a struggle as I craved dairy and meat products all the time. Now I have very few if any cravings. I have not slipped yet. I do eat a cooked vegan meal from time to time. I do not take any supplements. I mix flax seed in my smoothie or oatmeal for protein and I drink a cup of almond milk each day. You will find that fruits and veggies have all the nutrients our bodies need. I will be getting another blood test in the next month or so to make sure all my levels are in the normal range and will post it. For breakfast I blend 6 bananas, 12 noor dates, 1 cup blueberries, 2 tbs flax seed and 8 ice cubes. Sometimes I will add a handful of spinach. For lunch I will repeat the breakfast smoothie minus the flax seed or I will eat a watermelon. Sometimes I will cook a Don Lee Farms veggie patty from costco and wrap it in a wheat tortilla with 2 tbs of salsa. Dinner I make a salad with spinach, arugula, celery, tomato, cucumber, garbonzo beans and 2 tbs of newmans light balsamic dressing or I will make my own. I also drink a lot of water. Close to a gallon per day. I squeeze a lime in my water for flavor. This is not all inclusive but it is my main food staple. I also exercise, walk, jog, lift weights and stretch. I can actually touch my toes now!! oh by the way Costco sells Edamame beans ( not sure if I spelled it correctly) but they sure do a great job of curbing your cravings. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you need any more info.View Thread

I joined this group approximately 6 months ago. I was over 238lbs and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. With this diagnosis, I was placed on Metformin (diabetes), Lisinopril (high blood pressure) and An aspirin a day for the old ticker. I just wanted to report that I am down to 180lbs and am off all of the medication. I have done this in conjunction with my doctor and the blood test results. I eat a strict vegan diet and exercise most days. I am even thinking about running a marathon within a year. I still have more weight to lose. My healthy max weight is 174lbs and I am striving for 165lbs. Great thing is I am not starving myself and I actually look forward to exercising now. When I started this journey 6 months ago, I could not walk 100 yards with out breathing heavily. This past week I ran 11 miles up and down a mountain. I generally run at least 30 miles a week. The days that I can not run I walk 3 to 5 miles. It has not and is not an easy rode but when I wake up every morning and feel good it makes it all worth it. I used to chew antacids like candy because I always had heartburn. No more issues. I just want to thank everyone for the positive support in the beginning of my journey it has helped. Just want to let anyone out there know that if you are overweight and not feeling well, you can turn your life around!View Thread

I was diagnosed six weeks ago with type 2 diabetes. I was laid off and turned to food to make myself feel better. Topped out at 238lbs and am currently 208lbs with a goal of 165lbs. I stopped consuming sugary sweets and eliminated red meat from my diet. My stomach burned all the time and I was always sore. I no longer have any issues with stomach acid and I can actually touch my toes now! I just found the fitness anf food tracker on WEB MD and I must say it is awesome!View Thread
