Remember the Gold is not in the prize it's in the Journey
life may not be the Party we expected but while we are here we may as well dance
This is interesting . .. .
Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads ...together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.
It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow colouring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavourings....
DO YOU KNOW.. The difference between margarine and butter?
Read on to the end...gets very interesting!
Both have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine.
Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added!
Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years .
And now, for Margarine..
Very High in Trans fatty acids.
Triples risk of coronary heart disease ...
Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
Increases the risk of cancers up to five times..
Lowers quality of breast milk
Decreases immune response.
Decreases insulin response.
And here's the most disturbing fact... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC... and shares 27 ingredients with PAINT.
These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).
Open a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a couple of things:
* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value ; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow.
Why? Because it is nearly plastic . Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?
Share This With Your Friends.....(If you want to butter them up')!

So variety is key, I read magazines and search for recipes online to keep my meals healthy and exciting at the same time.
Hope that helps !View Thread
Instead of mayo, that is pretty much just calories and no nutrition, I started to use a bit of hummus.
It makes my turkey sandwich taste delicious, no need for mayo or cheese and I know I'm eating something with a nutrition value.
Worth a try !View Thread
I knew I wouldn't have enough time to do my regular routine, but I thought, any exercise is better than no exercise. So I pushed my self out of the bed and went.
For me going to the gym is the first step on the right path to make better choices through out the day.
And that proved to be right, I even manage to squeeze a 15 minutes walk during lunch with made up for the time I missed at the gym this morning.
So as much I hate to wake up earlier, I have to keep remind my self that is WORTH IT!
Have a great week everyone, and a "Happy Valentine's Day" !

But going to the gym on the weekends is even better than during the week. During the week I go to the gym before work and I have limited time to workout and during the weekend there is no pressure and that makes more enjoyable.
I always feel good after a work out with a feeling of accomplishment not to count more energy and that gives the bust I need to make better choices with my diet.
Today after my work I went home, icy me knees (I have arthritis) and snack on 5 whole grain cracker with hummus and an apple with low fat peanut butter.
In the past I would probably snack on regular cracker with cheese and something sweet like cookies, cake ...

I just wanted to add to the stair climbing tip b/c I love doing it. I live in a flat so when the weather is really bad(like today its snowing) or I'm too lazy to go out I can just go out on my door step and get a great cardio workout!
Benefits:
If your a 200lb person walking up stairs for 20 mins you lose about 242 calories and 726 after an hour. Compared to normal walking at mph 3 you will only burn 76 calories in 20 mins!(remember the more you weigh the more calories you burn!)
It also becomes a full body workout. You mainly workout your glutes, thighs and calves but you still get a great ab and arm work out.
You can do this anywhere there are stairs and its cheap too!
My 30min workout: 5 mins walking up stairs and 1 min running up stairs. alternate until you reach 30 mins
Warning: Do not run down stairs you would put 7 times more impact on your body if you do.
Also, if you have bad knees this may not be a good exercise for you.
Hope this helps!View Thread
As my new years resolution I want to get down to 120. Here's what I found out about climbing stairs.
First off I'm a 20 year old college student and is constantly climbing the stairs now its been about a month since I started my resolution and I already had lost 5lbs from my starting weight.
I learn that if I do a slight run up the 40 stairs I can use about 2/10 of a pound. Also eating healthy food and drinking only water helps keep the weight off.View Thread

to be zero calories and if it contains less than 5 calories they can call it zero. I don't count these calories either but it is one of the reasons I leave room in my calorie allowance to make up for things like these ..
If you read that ingredient label it has oils in it and they have fat calories
so I also leave room in my fat allowance for this ..

Recently, on Dr. Oz, he encouraged dieters to drink a glass of Metamucil 15 minutes before the evening meal. It helps make you feel full apparently without adding extra calories. Has anyone tried this and found it helpful?View Thread
Continual stress produces hormones that prevent me from burning calories as I should.
Not sleeping my necessary 7 hours or more at night I miss my REM sleep. This prevents me from getting the calorie burn during REM sleep and also limits, or prevents, production of my hunger barometer hormone which is built up in REM sleep and causes me to eat too much of the wrong things the next day.
But now that I know these 2 things I am doing something about it. I am meditating ten minutes every day and breathing deep five minutes every day. And I am getting to bed by 10 pm every night and waking at 7.View Thread
I believe that "you" setting reasonable and livable limits on "yourself" is what has brought you to where you are today....flourishing in health and happiness. The ice cream treat was a perfect opportunity to let others in your life continue to see those limits in action. Setting the limits for what you will allow in your life is all part of our growth process. It is something that I work on every day, as I near 100 pounds lost. It sounds trite to say that unless you respect yourself, others will not see the need to do so. You passed his test. A high FIVE to you and keep up the GREAT job!View Thread
