I can understand why this is confusing. Unfortunately at this time we do not have an expert to comment on the report.
Have you talked with your gastroenterologist about your concerns?

I am so sorry you have been going through this for so long.
First and foremost, you should have a comfortable relationship with your doctor. If a suggestion is made and you do not feel better then address the symptoms again and again.
You are not wasting the doctors time and they do not feel that way. If it was not for us patients, the doctors would not have a job! You deserve to feel good.
Are you seeing a gastrointestinal specialist? Have you had any GI studies? Has your doctor asked you to keep a food and symptom journal?
Here are some resources that may be helpful and give you more information to give your health care professional -
Diarrhea Causes
Food & Symptom Journal
Exams of the Digestive Tract
Digestive Disorder Health Center
Irritable Bowel Syndrome - I am not a doctor and I am not suggesting this as diagnosis, but this a place to start researching symptoms and tests.
Please let us know if you have additional questions.
I hope you find answers and are on the road to feeling better soon!

This article and study, Men, Women May Experience Acid Reflux Differently , explains more about the different gender experience.

You are a good friend to search for answers for your friend. This does seem like an excessive amount of fluids.
Please repost your concerns with our Kidney Disorder Community for more response.
Also, you may want to search "excessive thirst" on our site to see what possible conditions he may have.
Most importantly, have him contact his health care provider to have this evaluated.
