I give myself bowel massages. It's super easy and usually gets my gas moving (and pain/bloating reduced) within about 15 minutes.
I had a friend who is a massage therapist. She told me to always start by moving the descending colon a little, so you avoid getting backed up at some of the bends. Do this by massaging along the bottom of your rib cage, starting at the center, slowly moving to the left, then straight down along the left side, til just above the hip bone, then slightly downward and to the middle, stopping just under your belly button. Repeat this a few times (SLOWLY).
Once you've done that at least 3x, instead of stopping at your belly button, continue massaging to the right and up along the right side, coming back up to the center underneath your ribcage. Basically rubbing slowly in large ovals. Picture, if you had a 6pack, massaging ovals along where the outer edge of those muscles would be.
She told me to never do this for longer than like 5 minutes at a time, because it will cause severe diarrhea.
I do this every time I experience discomfort and it usually brings relief shortly thereafter, and sometimes results in a BM. Sometimes I can just massage a single area in the correct direction and immediately feel the gas start to bubble along.
If you are uncomfortable doing this yourself, you could see a massage therapist instead.View Thread
