The situation never got much better so this week I had an endoscopy done. My original diagnosis has been oral thrush all along. The last trip to the ER was 2 weeks ago & I actually seen a NP that specializes in upper GI while at the ER visit.
She said oral thrush can be this severe & hard to get rid of completely. By this time I'd already been on 3 rounds of meds but only 1-week courses at a time of diflucan. She put me on a 3-week course of difllucan & also gave me Xanax for my anxiety.
The results of my endoscopy are listed below. I'm awaiting biopsy results so the waiting game is on but I'd like some experts/people with knowledge to shed some light on the results. I've looked up some of the terminology but it can be very confusing. Here's what was found:
Esophagus:
Lumen: benign intrinsic stricture in the lower third of the esophagus. A bougie was used to to stretch/dilate the esophagus successfully.
Mucosa: abnormal mucosa noted in the lower third of the esophagus. Biopsy was taken for possible suggestion of Barrett's esophagus.
Additional esophagus findings: moderate reflux pharyngitis
Stomach:
Contents: bilious fluids was found in the stomach
Mucosa: Antritis of the mucosa noted in the antrum. Cold forceps biopsies were performed in the antrum. Moderate gastritis of the mucosa was noted in the stomach.
Protuding lesions: Two polyps were found in the stomach. The polyps were completely removed.
Duodenum:
Mucosa: Irregularity of the mucosa was noted in the duodenum. Cold forceps biopsies were performed. Biopsies were performed to rule out Giardia, whipples, and sprue(Celiac Disease). There were also nodules noted here.
That's the report. The discharge nurse didn't seem too concerned. I was put on 30mg Prilosec in the meantime. I'm more concerned about the report from the duodenum than anything else I guess. The word nodule scares people to death anyhow. Nodules can be caused from various things.
The weird thing about all of these stomach findings is I didn't really have any symptoms coming from there. Rarely nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, pains, or anything else coming from that region. However, 80%-90% of sickness starts in the digestive tract.
I only had stress, anxiety, tiredness, fatigue as my main symptoms before the oral thrush diagnosis about 2 months ago. My thinking is the lesions/findings from the endoscopy is actually from a systemic case of candida/fungus.
I think my body is just overgrown with fungus & the oral thrush case spread from my tongue after scraping down into my throat, esophagus,& stomach area. The white coating is just about gone from my tongue but still a little there. I mean I had actual physical evidence of a yeast overgrowth problem with my white tongue coating. It's been there for years but got more white in the past couple years. I never thought much about it until my wife made the decision to try out some tongue scrapers & that's when all heck broke loose.
I was stressed & fatigued before this ever happened so my immune system was weakened anyhow. It just makes sense this is just a bad case of candida that had probably been building up in my system over time. Candida is a sign of underlying problem somewhere in the body though.
I had evidence on my tongue so it could have been in several parts of my body for some time & when I scraped my tongue for 3 days & it bled that really sent things into motion. I'd like some comments/opinions on this situation going by the endoscopy results & the timing om my oral thrush diagnosis.
I still have swallowing difficulty & swollen lymph nodes in the neck. I've also had CT scans & X-rays/barium swallows done as well. Nothing of any concern was found on those tests. Lymphoma has been totally ruled out & there has been no signs of any cancer at all from bloodwork & testing. I pray that's the case from the endoscopy as well. Comments welcomed!View Thread
