You actually need to get into a specialist and have a special test done called an VIDEO/EEG if one has not been doen already. That will help and will tell you the types of szs you are having. They should have already told you what types you have IF you have several types.
YOu should Lready have that info or you need to switch docs for neurology.
That was wrong for them to not tell you that much.
Also just for a bad weekend they may not need to increase meds etiher.
I have been under a great deal of stress lately, but they have found a great drug back in april called Fycompa that has helped me greatly and has taken out of control szs and controlled them. I still have intractable epilepsy.
I Still take 3 drugs and have a VNS.
most times stress can pile on the szs for most of us.
The VEEG can pin point the exact spot that your szs are coing from thus telling the doc what typs they are.
I have Complex Partial szs. I was really sick with Meningitis and had multiple sz types for at least a yr as a result but have gone back to one where I started out with. I was also in a car accident on 02 and suffered a head injury and whip lash and several broken bones. That all tripped it out even more.
THey came to find out that I had it since I was born.
JUst life events tripped it.
what ever you do , DO NOT increase or decrease your oen meds WITHOUT dr's permission that is how people get themselves into holes that they can not get out of and wind up in t rouble with their meds.
Just stay where you are at and then try to rescduel and then go in and see them and discuss all you concerns then.
Tell them EVERYTHING that has gone on and in the order of events. ask them to increase and see what they say. I have had to ask mine that and sometimes he said he would and like this time he said he did not want to rock the boat because th ings were working,
Ialso take Lamotrigine as well as one of mine. I have for 11 yrs;I took the braind name when it came out, and when it went generic when to that because that is what my insurance would pat for. I have never had a problem with it either.
I also take generic Topamax as well called Topirimate and brand name Fycompa (there is no generic with this one yet as is just came out in April this year).
I take Topamax as well and @ 200 mgs/day. I take 100 mgs in the am and 100 mgs/night.
Everyone reacts differently to meds so the way youa re reacting to it may be different to the next person's reaction. I do not have memory problems from it. Your problems may stem from the Dialntin and maybe not from the Topamax at al.Dilantin dcan also cause the same problems as well.
Topamax is known for memory problems and because of that my neuro will not put me on any more than what I am on because he is fearful that I will start to have memory problerms.
so far, so good.
I am on 3 drugs. Fycompa, Lamictal, Topamax, and I have the VNS implant.
I wicsh you the best of luck with this and that you can find the right meds that don't cause all this.
