dverba, if what I shared helped in any way, I am so glad! The reason I was diagnosed rather quickly with fibro is because I really kept feeling like I had the flu. To the point where like you, I was achy and was unable to do hardly anything. I was also fortunate that my doctor at the time cared enough and believed what I was telling her. So that she took me seriously and tested me for many other illnesses which all came up negative. I did have a low vitamin D count though. Also like you, I have other unrelated pain conditions. I'm a young 57 and have terribly arthritic joints, the worse is in my neck.
I do see a pain mngt. doctor now. The pain from all my conditions including Fibro, cause me to be on pain medication. I took Tramadol after I was first dxd and had a pretty bad experience with it, in combo with other meds I was taking it caused Serotonin Syndrome, it was one of the worst night-mares I ever went through. But I want to add, many can and do take Tramadol for Fibro pain and it works well for them. I'm not sure what chiari malformation is, so I'm curious. I hope you can find a good regimen to follow to help with the chronic pain. Please let me know how you are doing.View Thread

MarFran, I have to take those Tylenol gel capsules when I get a sinus headache. They are so big they hurt my throat, and it's impossible to swallow them. So what I do is put them in my mouth, and in about 30-40 seconds they become soft enough for me to bite, and crush them, then I am able to swallow them no problem with a glass of water. I used to cut them with a knife and squeeze the contents into a little bit of water. But discovered putting them in my mouth, biting, then swallowing is much easier.View Thread

You are right, we should NEVER go off a medication by ourselves, it should be done under a doctors careful guidance! My problem back then was I did not have a good doctor who really listened to me, plain and simple. One doctor told me she did not trust any of her patients anymore because so many had lied to her so they could get prescription drugs to get high. She allowed me to try Codeine, and when I told her it made me too sick and dizzy, she would not allow me to try anything else. The options were to take Tramadol, which I could not, or go see a pain specialist. I was in Maryland then and there was a 6 month waiting list to see one, and we we're planning on moving to California in 5 months. I went through a pretty rough time basically because of all the addicts out there who ruin it for alot of honest people who are dealing with serious pain issues. It is sad it has to be this way, and I feel for all the other people who are going through this same kind of trial.
Take care, and thanks for the input!

I will never be one to judge another for taking narcotics for chronic pain! It is terrible the way drug addicts have managed to put this awful stigma on taking pain medicene. Sadly there is no undoing the horrendous damage they have inadvertantly caused to literally millions of people who suffer every day with pain.
People please do not judge others for this. Pain medications can help make a persons life much more tolerable and bearable. To me it is a no brainer. Will you become dependant if you take pain pills every day? Most likely yes! Will you become a desperate addict forsaking everyone and everthing good in your life if you take pain meds? The odds are highly against this happening! I hope people will realize it is okay to use a good resource the good Lord has made available to us through the community of modern medicene. I hope the day will come soon when people have a better understanding of this important issue.
I just wanted to add my opinion to this very controversial subject. I myself am no longer getting pain medicene, but am planning on asking for a referral to a pain management doctor as soon as my hubby and I are settled in California where we are moving to in two weeks. I am in pain every day from fibro and osteoarthritis that has changed my life dramatically in just the past year and a half. Have tried all the fibro meds. (plus Tramadol which helped some but had too many side effects, one being awful Serotonin syndrome) DenMother you are right on about how this illness wears you down!
Many of us have sensitive systems and cannot take much in the way of drugs because of this, ( yes they are all drugs if you have to have a rx to get them) another point I want to make is... alot of the so called fibro meds have many more potential awful side effects than pain meds do. I, like many others have found this out the hard way, through trial and error. For those of you who can manage your symptoms with these types of meds... that is wonderful.... for you. Unfortunately this is not the case for everyone.
We should not be denied a decent quality of life because of the irresponsibility of others.
May the good Lord guide us all in dealing with this issue.
Take care

I hope you are feeling better Caprice. You are such a wonderful contributer to this site. I hope you know you are appreciated dear!
As for the rest.
1. Reading, and playing Scrabble with my DH.
3. Chocolate
4. Wretched with Todd Friel (it's a christian show) I guess theres no guilt with this one, but I do love true crime shows like dateline, and 20/20 and 48 hours. It amazes me the lengths some people will go to for love or greed or hatred!
5. I would love to take a tour of the Holy Land someday.

There are many companys that sell them, just try googling memory foam. And most will let you have at least a 30 day trial, if you do not like it you can get a full refund.
I can't remember exactly what ours cost, but it was under 200 dollars.
I hope you find something that works. If you do, let us know.
Hey MiMi have you ever tried one? I think the memory foam is different from the Temperpedic. (not sure of the spelling either)

If you believe in the true God, He will answer your prayers. The bible says the effectual, fervent prayers of a righteous man (or woman) availeth much!
Please do not take this the wrong way, I only am going to share this because I do not know where you are in your relationship with the Lord. I also only say this because this sounds like such a dire and difficult situation. The important thing here is that you have a real and ongoing relationship with God, thru His son who died so we can have eternal life. The moment we become believers, we are changed on the inside, and God is doing this thru the Holy Spirit. If you are in Him, believing, and living for Him, this means repenting when we mess up, than you will have an open access to Him. This is so vital, and I am not sharing this because you do not have this access, again, only because I do not know for sure.
I pray you do, because if you do, than God will hear the heartfelt cries from you. It sounds like you love them all very much. I encourage you to try to give it all to Him, and He will answer your prayers according to His will.
He is a miracle working God, and loves all of you. He will take care of you, your daughter, and these precious children.
Your post made me cry, I don't cry easily, but I felt an overwhelming urgency to pray for all of you right away. Maybe because I too am a mother and grandmother, or possibly God was telling me too. He does hear us, and cares.
Please let us know how this turns out. And know, I will be more than happy to keep praying.
Debbie

I'm glad the cymbalta helps some. Of course we will always have to deal with pain, there are no miracle cures.
Yes, we can do all things, endure all things, and be more than conquerers through Christ!
