Hello-
My Neurologist has recently prescribed me with Elavil 5mg's at bedtime to help with sleep to add to my already 75mg's 1x daily of Lyrica for fibro pain. It seems to be working well. I did however google these meds and find that there is some type of interaction when taking both of these meds but it never says what that is. Does anyone know or has anyone taken this combination of meds and had a reaction or success? Please advise. Also, has anyone seen a doctor with the title of Psychophysiologist? If so, what has been your experience? Thanks!View Thread

HI-
I have tried probably over 20 meds in all different categories and I FINALLY found a combination that works for both sleep and pain for me. I am taking Lyrica for pain and Elavil for sleep. I am only taking 75mg's 1x day for the lyrica and 5mg's of Elavil. Yes, I do feel a little foggy in the am after taking these meds but the benefit is worth that. I can finally get some sleep and I honestly havent in a LONG time! The pain is still there but its kept at bay. I have tried Savella and I have to say that I would only use that medication as a last resort. I became violently ill within a matter of 2 hours of taking that medication. My Neurologist told me that it is an extremely powerful medication. I have also tried Cymbalta which did nothing for me. All I can say is hang in there...all medications work differently for everyone - you just have to find the right combination for yourself. Know that people with fibro tend to react more sensitively to medications. Your spouse probably is not understanding your condition and thinks that taking any antidepressant for anything still has such a stigma upon it. These days it doesnt - so many people are on them for many different conditions. Good luck! Hopefully you will find your pain relief dosage/medication soon.Keep at it- try to put up with the side effects for a little bit of time to see if you will get the benefit from the medication- sometimes the side effects subside but know that with certain meds no amount of feeling sicker than you originally did is worth taking that med.View Thread

Hi-
I just saw a new dr for me- a Neurologist who supposebly specializes in fibro. He recommended that I stay on Lyrica 75mgs 1x daily and to add Elavil 10mg's for a week and then to increase by 10mg's weekly until I reach 40mgs daily. I am concerned this may be too much with both and I may be too tired or out of it being that both meds make you sleepy. Has anyone been on both at the same time? He also recommended biofeedback but didnt really explain this to me. Has anyone had this done? What is it exactly for fibro patients and does it work? Thanks!View Thread

Honestly, I could not tolerate the Savella. I took it for 3 days and was incredibly sick with bad side effects- dizziness, vomiting, nausea, sweating, weird dreams and terrible headache. For me, it was not worth it. I took the 12.5mg the 1st night as instructed then in the am and then went up to the 25mg. Waayyy to much for me. I called my dr and discontinued it. I then tried another med and it did nothing for me. Im back to Lyrica which sometimes works for me and sometimes doesnt. You are correct- this is a battle for us. Trial and error and meds work differently for some people. If you want to give the Savella a try go ahead, maybe you can tolerate it but I would recommend doing it over a weekend in case you are sick. Good luck!View Thread

Hi-
I keep reading posts on here that say to have your Vitamin D levels checked since if its low it can cause more pain. I asked my dr to check my level and he checked mine by doing a test called 25 OH Vitamin D level. The result was 34.0 ng/ML and he wrote that the result is "normal". I went online and am seeing several places that a "normal" Vitamin D level is between 50 and 80. Im not sure if I really have a low Vitamin D level or not now. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Can anyone recommend how much to take to help? Thanks!View Thread

I understand how you feel. I have had fibro for over 10 years now and I have 19 month old twins and I am now a stay at home mom. I gave up my job when I got pregnant to take care of them but in a way it is like a full time job- alot of it being physical- lifting the kids, car seats and all of their gear. I know how trying it can be to remain positive and in a good mood around your kids when you are in alot of pain and I try to do fun things with them and take them places but it isnt always easy. I try to take breaks myself during the day while they nap but I often find myself doing dishes or laundry during that time to "catch up" on the stuff I cant do when Im chasing them both around. Still, I wouldnt change it for the world. Hang in there- you are doing the best that you can and your kids love you - no matter what.

I seriously am at my wits end. I was on Lyrica 50mg for about 2 years until it stopped working. I then decided to try Savella ( too many side effects for me) and then Topomax which did nothing for my pain but gave weird headaches. I am back on the Lyrica (this time 75mg's) and it seems to work on and off for my pain. The last 2 days no relief at all. I took 1 in the am and then tried another at night. No relief. I dont understand why its not working at all now. Could I have built up a tolerance to it or is it just that it doesnt work for me anymore or maybe Im not taking enough. I need to be able to function and have a clear head since I am a stay at home mom of 19 month old twins. Any suggestions? I am going in September to see a Neurologist who specializes in fibro. I am hoping he has some other suggestions for me. I have been on Cymbalta, Flexeril and all kinds of NSAIDS, none of which have worked for me. Im hoping for a new "miracle drug" to come out soon. I know there are some in clinical trials with the FDA but I wish they would hurry up. Does anyone have a "cocktail" that works for them? The pain and fatigue are really affecting my life negatively.View Thread

Hello Alix-
Thanks for your response. I did stop the Savella.I am currently trying Topiramate which I guess is a generic for Topamax which is normally used for migraines. My dr. wanted me to try it for fibro. So far no help at all for fibro pain and I am in alot of pain. I have been on it for about a week now only at 25mg's and was advised to up my dosage today for another week to 50mg's to see if I get any relief. I am not sure if I will have to go back on Lyrica if this does not work or what else I can do at this point. I am scheduled to see a Neurologist who specializes in fibro in Sept. so I hope he has some magical advise to offer me. I am at about at my wits end here. Wish me luck!
