I am 42 and have been diagnosed since 2008. I have seen numerous doctors, but it wasn't until my GYN check up that I mentioned the tiredness and ask to have my hormones checked. I was already on some pain meds (don't remember what) but no one could figure out what was wrong with me. When I asked my GYN that question, she then asked me do you feel achy. Well yes I do, it feels like the flu. She tested my blood and everything was fine, thyroid was fine, all hormones were fine, I wasn't even close to pre-menapausal yet. YAY ME!! But she suggested I tell my current pain specialist about my concerns, so that very week I did. Once I got through the explanation of what my GYN had said, he immediatly performed the pressure point test on me, my results 16 out of 18, I had fibro, but hey, it only took two years to figure it out.
Now, we began the journey of finding what works, body stretching, ultra sound therapy (i liked that, it was relaxing), the tinge unit, physical therapy, all of which only caused more pain. Next we started experimenting with various drugs, many of which had of affect what so ever. So now what, not only are the pain therapies not working, neither are the meds. I try to discuss other options and they absolutely do not want to put me on narcotics. I really don't care what I'm put on as long as I can get out of bed and take care of my children.
So, with the help of my PC, because I was sick and tired of the pain clinic treating us more like drug addicts rather than patients which always flared my severe anxiety disorder and I would be freaking out and/or crying by the time I left. So my PC agreed to help and took me off some of the crazy meds they had me on that didn't work and started a new cocktail.
Skipping forward, I had an amazing job that I loved and made descent money, I developed a severe vitamin D deficiency that was so low (17) that the Dr. really didn't know how I walked in there. Now mind you this is the second Dr I saw for the vitamin D, since the first DR told me I was just tired because of the fibro. The wonderful second Dr drew my labs and discovered the vitamin D deficiency and a couple other manageable issues. I take vitamin D religiously because when that happens to you, all you can do is sleep (all the time) That's all I did for months and lost the best job I ever had. About a year later I lost another job to fibro. I was so busy working, taking care of the kids, the house, shopping, and running the kids to every sport and functions they needed to be at. I also have a severely disabled step son who I take care of on a semi regular basis. So with a life such as mine, how do find the time to have a flare, and then you are so exhausted from your life and everyone elses demands and everyone else schedules for where they have to be and when.
It has caused problems in my relationship, though he tries to understand, he really don't but will do what hes told but not on his own. That's an issue inside itself...HA
So my med cocktail is this: Lyrica 150 mg 2x, Cymbalty 60 mg 1x, Gabapentin 600 mg 3x, Lortab 10/500 4x, and Ambien 10 mg at bedtime. I think this is a really good cocktail for me, it seems to work most of the time, however, Lyrica and Cymbalta causes weight gain.. I want to know your thoughts on Phentermine. This is a weight loss drug that has some sort of fibro treatment in it. I went to get some and was told I couldn't mix it with Cymbalta as it would cause serotonin syndrome. I haven't had a reaction to any drug other than it not working. I have tried it, a nurse friend who takes it gave me some and I felt 50 - 60% better. I think I could take this med without the mentioned side effects since I have been taking it for about 3 weeks.
Any thoughts. Could my Dr prescribe it so I don't have to go to a weight loss clinic.
Sorry for the long post...much help needed. Gently huggs to all!!!View Thread
