It's been cold with some snow flurries here this week. I've been working at a client's office. I like having the freedom to leave if I have to, unpaid of course. Being self-employed, I miss the camaraderie of regular co-workers, but this office has some real characters. There's a the yeller, the whisperer, and the one who chews gum loudly all day long. UGH!
Being out of my home office, I don't get to do some things, like check the headlines and check in here. I try to read the post, but I'm not always successful.
Mel, HUGE congrats to you! You've workers hard, and it paid off. I hope you and DH get to have a little celebration.
Mimi, my sister's granddaughter will be four next week. When did that happen? She's a great little kid, wise beyond her years. and funny as all get out. Story: I found a bubble tumbler when unpacking kitchen boxes, and my sister said GD didn't have one. I brought it to her, along with a jar of bubbles. Two weeks later, I brought my sister a few VHS tapes, and GD says to me, "what did you bring me today?" I told her I wasn't going to bring anything for her every time I saw her. She seemed to accept that explanation. LOL
Linda, did you ever think 27° was "balmy"?
Cory, I hope you're having a better day with less pain. I noticed that with the cold came the pain. UGH again!!
I'll be working next week too, and will check in when I can. I wish you all the best weekend you can possible have! LouView Thread
Happy Sunday! And I do mean SUN - it was out and wonderful!
Had a mini heatwave today, I think it went up to 35; it's 6:30pm and 30 now. Things were melting and I've been waiting for the huge glacial icicles hanging from the house to fall off. It'll do that either right before I go to sleep or right before the alarm goes off. Right?
Mimi, stay well. I know it's tempting to help out at DD's house, but it won't be good if you catch whatever they have.
Nancy, we had mice, and they made me crazy running up and through the walls. Haven't heard or seen any since the kitchen was done. Many years ago, with two cats mind you, DH went to the grocery store. he bought a bag of kitty litter, cat food, and a box of mousetraps. The clerk looked at the items and back at him. He said, "someone's not doing her job." Now we try to come up with three silly items to buy. Sometimes it's R-rated, but we laugh.
Cory, glad for your newer vehicle. When I got my '11 Civic, the salesman walked me to the car, and I said, "oh it's not the blue one is it?" DH has a smurf-blue Aveo and a smoky-blue Dakota pickup. My Civic is named Sky...
Mel, stay warm and dry, even if you're tempted to hand out outside. Study and make us proud!
I'm working all week, so I'll be a little scarce. I wish you all the best days you can possibly have! LouView Thread
DARNED cold here, 8 right now, with a "feels like" of -9. When did "wind chill" become "feels like"? Even 8 says freakin' cold to me, I don't need the -9!
The ice and snow are wearing me out. DH has a roof rake with a l-o-n-g pole, and he'll be out there tomorrow pulling snow off our roofs, I'm sure. Our next-door neighbors, a young couple with three boys, have borrowed the rake. We saw the husband on their roof with a shovel a week ago, and we don't want him to fall. Others are filling panty hose with rock salt and putting it on the ice-filled gutters. It does work, but it takes time. I'm all for tossing up rock salt and hoping for the best. 'm trying not to whine, but something has to give! (And I'm hoping it's not more windows!)
The local high school had an entry collapse under the weight of ice and snow, a structural engineer was supposed to inspect it yesterday. We'll see what comes from that. I want to go out with a hammer and break it up, DH says to leave it for him. LOL!
I managed to get out for lunch with a friend yesterday. It was sunny, so that was nice, and we hadn't seen each other in a month. I made a couple errand stops on the way home, picked up some coffee for DH and a big bag of Kettle chips for me. The chips were a splurge (I've been buying the sore brands). but if I'm gonna be stuck in the house I might as well enjoy it!
My BFF is house sitting for her niece during school vacation. BFF is still looking for work, how the place where she used to work can fire her for no reason other than salary is beyond me. She's a SPED teacher, and was maxed out salary-wise, and the new teacher is fresh out of school. BFF's former aides say the "new girl" won't lift a finger if it's not directly teacher related. How sad for those kids!
Mimi - SPRING!
Cece, I can't imagine how you're feeling after your friend's move. Could you schedule weekly Skype calls with her? If not for technology I would miss my BFF too much; we've been friends since junior high school!
Cory, I hope you're able to enjoy the gathering tonight. DH has a sister who is just mean to me, but is all hearts and flowers with everyone else. I think DH doesn't believe me, but I ignore her, her DH and her kids. I hope your DW goes with you, hangs with the people she likes, and avoids your DB.
Jeanne, I've never used Savella, I hope it brings you relief.
I wish you all the best day - and the best weekend - YOU can possibly have! LouView Thread
Hello FMily, and Happy Thursday! I'm channeling confusion today, so bear with me!!
This site (and many others) has been sluggish today. Maybe it's the cold? LOL It's been darned cold here, 19 now (5pm) and "feels like" 3, and it's been with flurrying on and off all day. I got out and had lunch with a friend, did a little 'window shopping' (nobody had anything I wanted for a price I'd pay). Tomorrow will be sunny, and more snow Saturday. It's getting old, isn't it?
A client called and booked me to work all next week. It's good to get out and see people - but I can bill them, too!! One of the perils of being self-employed (I'm a freelance graphic designer) is that if nobody has work, you don't get the call. Of course, working means making money, and making it means spending it.
DH and I never really celebrated ValDay last weekend. I like Ruby Tuesday, but it wasn't special. Topic for discussion later!
Like many of you, we're design with ice dams. We have a serious leak in the dining room, and ice without leaks in other areas. When it drips I'm trying to stay ahead of it, rotating wet/dry towels and emptying buckets. At least it's not the kitchen"026
I'll leave here, and I hope everyone has a nice warm night. I wish you all the best day YOU can possibly have! LouView Thread
Cold here - again - 25 here and nothing falling from the sky. Yesterday's snow was light and fluffy, and reminded me of those sheets of fake snow stores put out at Christmas time. You know the ones, they have a light layer on top that's sparkly. I'm hoping for sunshine today, and there's supposed to be snow later today and again tomorrow. This weekend they're talking about heavy and wet snow - great. (I hope that registers as sarcasm"026)
My dental adventure continues. The original temp crown disappeared during lunch yesterday. ahem. I called the densest and I have a new temp, much nicer than the original, which seemed weird. The new crown will be in next week, and I'm pretty well done with this mess, too.
Mimi, you're not sleeping - would a 'white noise' unit help? I use an app on my tablet (it's on my hone, too), and plug it in all night. There are a lot of different sound to listen to, right now I'm using a 'night sounds' pre-set. Especially when I'm stressed, it helps me get to sleep. DH doesn't mind it either.
Lisa, glad you're feeling ok. It does't matter how we feel, we have to move that snow! I know I picked up a shovel over the past few days. We have to pace ourselves!
Mel that cost sounds crazy! I feel bad when I'm racking up costs that aren't planned, too. Study hard, make us proud, and help people.
The sun just came out - HURRAY! I'll have cake later for Cory and his twin.
I wish you all the best day you can possibly have. LouView Thread
We've been warned of another 2-4" today, and my sense of humor is waning. I love the snow, watching it fall, but I hate having to move it out of the way. I haven't been out of the hours for anything good for days. My job during lunch will be to read the paper, do a couple puzzles, and make a shopping list soI have a reason togo somewhere else!
I'm having a new crown made, and the temp is causing all kinds of anxiety. It popped off after one week, and I went back to the dentist's office and they glued it back on. The following day it happened again, and this time I knew they were closed, so I waited to call. WRONG! Instead it fell off while I was eating and I wrecked it. Another 2 1/2 weeks til the new one is in, so I'm babying this darned thing until then.
I mentioned the plantar arch supports the other day, and I hope someone gets relief using them. I've stopped using the expensive orthotic for my right foot, which was hard because I had thrown out out the footbed liners, and had to scramble for a replacement. It took about a month to get used to it, and some days I have to push it left or right to get it where it feels good. They're $11.99 a pair at my local CVS.
My favorite side yard friends are back! Our huge cardinal Charles and his wife Charlene have returned. IDK whether they're the same ones over the years, but he's a big round bird, and I love to see them. One of these days they'll knock on the window and ask for seed, and I suppose we'll have to shovel a path"026
I finished DH's hat on Valentines Day. I hate finishing something and finding it doesn't fit, and he was SO excited. It's not any old hat - the yarn has a reflective strip in it, so when he's out with a shovel or the snowblower someone driving up the street will see him. Here's a link: http://www.redheart.com/yarn/reflective

COLD and sunny here, and more snow on the way. I've had enough. I had a dentist's appt this morning, and scraped one of my car mirrors on the drift. I'll go out and chop some down before DH gets home, maybe let the sun do some of the work.
We had a decent weekend, he was very disappointed that we couldn't go have a fancy dinner. I told him it's fine maybe in a week or two. I broke my foot a few years go, was on crutches from mid-Nov to mid-Feb. We had our "Valentine's Day" dinner in March. LOL
Mimi, remember to pace yourself and put on a sweater or two. It might feel icky at first but it's so worth it!
Nancy: have you seen Doc McStuffin? She's a little cartoon girl who is her stuffed animal's vet. Your story made me think of it.
Cory, are you using custom orthotics? I gave up on mine! CVS has a jelly-like arch support that has relieved all my plantar fasciitis pain! A box of two are $13-15, and really did it for me. The gel-pad comes in a sleeve, you can use it in any shoe (looks weird in strappy sandals LOL), I usually wear sneakers anyway. You might consider them.
Everyone, please be safe. Have the best day you can possibly have! LouView Thread
Cold and snowy here, 20 right now. We have water dripping into the dining room, an ice dam has formed about the windows. I went out a little while ago to see what icicles I could get rid of. Not much, unfortunately. So the bath towels are back, and the bucket with the hose that leads into the cellar drain. I can't take much more"026
Today's consensus is: I have the flu. I got the shot, which I have for almost 20 years , but they said they chose the wrong strain. Great. So I'm taking Delsym for the cough, acetaminophen for the fever (maxed at 101.7 yesterday), and hanging out cuz I'm exhausted. I've gotta have DH take me out later before I go nuts!
It seems lime kit can't stop snowing. I made the treacherous ride to my client's site - 7 miles - yesterday morning, and the more treacherous ride home. I forgot how to rock a car, but I managed to get it un-stuck twice!
Then there's the cold. 101.7° fever, coughing that won't stop, plus mind-sucking pain all over. I originally thought it was a flare. Life is too much for me right now. I hope to recuperate tomorrow, as my client wants me Thurs and Fri!
Saturday I'm running our downtowns assn's chocolate event. Buy a ticket, get a bag, and go from business to business collecting, well, chocolate!! It's like Halloween, but without the costumes. The event is for all ages, and it fun to see everyone so excited! Unless it snows, and we'll postpone it to there 21st.
The whole Valentines Day thing is out of control, isn't it? When I was a kid, we used to get big boxes of cards, write our names on them, put then in envelopes on which we'd write the names of the recipients. When did it become a candy-giving event for elementary-schoolers?
One. Day. At. A. Time.
