Believe it or not, exercise is probably not your problem. If you just ate, sensibly, you'd get life changing amounts. Being just 10 pounds overweight increases the force on the knees by about 40 pounds of pressure on the joint and cartilage with each step. Closer to 60 pounds of force across your hips. In other words, people build incredible amounts of muscles just having to move their bodies. The idea of the overweight needing large amounts of exercise to lose is a testament to the gullibility (to advertising) of the general population. Your problem is not exercise. Your (&, everybody's) problem is foodselection. If you ate the right foods, simply moving from a seated position to a standing position a few times every hour would be tremendously beneficial exercise. I walked over 25,000 miles these last 10 years and to the average person, 50 and over, I "appear" to be in great shape...good tone and fit. But just because I walk daily does not mean I could hop on the sand for 2 hours of beach volleyball. Or, hike 8 miles at 10,000 ft with a 25 lb pack. Any activity that involves frequent jumping for any extended length of time requires a very fit heart to overcome the gravitational pull of blood. In other words, I'm in walking shape but I'm not in shape for full court basketball. Each activity uses different muscles that must be developed in order to perform them in comfort. Jumping is an excellent, powerful movement but extremely strenuous and, depending on age and condition, should be performed with caution, imo.View Thread

How many people go to a restaurant and tell the waiter, "Please hold the bread, the cheese, the fat, the oil and hold all sauces? If a restaurant served food without those, nobody would show up at the door.

Actually in modern America, because people are likely to eat foods that are "iron-fortified", ie cereals, breads, dairy products...plus, of course, natural sources of iron...meat, fish, chicken and beans...there are more people that are too high in iron rather than too low. This is especially true for men and post menopausal women.
What are some problems with having too much iron in your body?
Too much iron in your blood may be just as bad as having too little. Iron is a potent oxidizer that can generate the production of "free radicals". By now, everybody has heard the term, antioxidants (and the importance of eating them)? Well, the job of antioxidants is to neutralize the tissue destroying effects of "free radicals". It's been suggested in recent studies that overdosing on vitamins may be causing cancer, diabetes and liver damage within the population.
The best solution is to see your doctor, annually, and be sure to have your blood drawn and tested as part of the checkup. Also, make sure you disclose all drugs, vitamins and supplements (especially, diet supplements) during annual check-ups, too.

Just because you get a lot of sleep doesn't mean you're well rested. Rest is achieved only through deep sleep. Ever been tested for sleep apnea? If you're not getting sufficient oxygen when sleeping, your body will struggle no matter how much sleep you get.
