What's Happening Now
When you post about allergies over there, there is always the fear that you are opening yourself up for ridicule. You never know how they will react.
It's nice that they try, but it's just not the same. Like, when they give suggestions on things to do, it's almost insulting, like -- Your really think I haven't tried that before???? When, here, if the same suggestion was made, I would appreciate it. I think I just may be a board snob.....
If you ask for a post to be deleted, I think it should be deleted. If there was a question about it, they could have contacted you to verify that you still wanted it to be deleted.View Thread

They are based in Virginia, but check out their website or give them a call.
Good luck.View Thread
It's so sad, though, that it takes a child's death to get change.View Thread
I recently had the ELISA blood test done and found that I had a strong reaction to lemons (among many other things). I know to not ingest anything with lemon or it's oil. But do I need to stay away from cleaning products with lemongrass used as a fragrance?
My symptoms: rash, voice change, chest tightness and shortness of breath.
Thank you for you rhelp.

P.s. burnt popcorn causes the symptoms to be even worse so be carefulView Thread
How are the kids handling you being gone so much? Are they enjoying all their Daddy-time?
It was just Emily and DH alone last week, and it was so good for the two of them.View Thread

Anyway, you can check out www.godairyfree. org for tips about how to live well without dairy. At our house, we use Turtle Mountain's So Delicious yogurt (good to keep getting live cultures - and it is really yummy), Follow Your Heart (Vegan Gourmet) soy cheese, Silk. You'll need to read labels for ingredients like casein and whey - there is a previous post about that topic and you can always go to FAAN's website (www.foodallergy.org) for ingredients to watch for. And if you surf this page under "tips" and "resources" you'll find more great info and recipes. GL!View Thread
Wanted to pass on some information. I also try to stay away from medications and recently my allergies/sinuses have caused congestion, sore throat and raspy voice. My doctor gave me Hell Allergy Homeopathic Medication and it has worked great. It can be given to children and adults. I did see it at my local Wegmans in the health food section. Maybe it is something you could check into and check with your dr.
Hope everyone is doing better.

I am going to pass the info on to her now.View Thread
I feel like I can breathe a big sigh of relief that the parties are over for this school year.View Thread
I hope, like all of you do, that more companies start offering allergen-free treats.View Thread

I've been surfing it and it looks like these are moms of kids with autism, EE, and other issues...so they blog about food allergies and restricted diets, and having kids who are a little different. It's interesting. Check it out!View Thread
Remember the last aricle with the little girl from VA? Did we ever find out how she got the peanut product? I think it was still unknown at the time of the article.View Thread
It probably won't help, but I'll tell you anyway -- Don't feel guilty! You didn't fail him!
Mommy guilt is the worst. I still go back and forth on whether I enjoy them both being in school or not. When Elizabeth is in school, I try to do things she doesn't like or wouldn't be with me anyway -- like the gym or grocery shopping. I tell myself that way I can enjoy more time with her when she is home, and do things she likes. It helps me feel less guilty.View Thread
I took this survey, and it was interesting to see how much money we spend every year on avoiding food allergies. Since I stay home, and planned to do so even before Emily was diagnosed, it was not as a large an impact as other families experience. I can only imagine the economic impact if I had to work.View Thread
I don't think I shared my near heart attack experience about the nutella. If I did, sorry. The pizza place we have ALWAYS gone to was taken over by new owners recently. It was our first time there and I made sure they didn't cook with peanut oil or anything and they assured me everything was fine. I gave the kids there pizza to start eating while I paid at the counter. Out of the corner of my eye, I see the pizza maker whip out a HUGE tub of nutella. My heart dropped to the floor. I told the guy he had a severe peanut allergy and I needed to know where they used it and that it was away from the regular pizza. Again, he assured me it doesn't touch the pizza. Moments later I see the guys globbing it on bread right where ALL the pizza is made. A few moments after that a lady swings by our table and places a tray on our table (in front of Nathan's face) with "on the house" nutella pizza! I think I could have dropped dead right there. I said thank you and quickly moved it the opposite of the table and later just throwing it out. Afterwards we went to the supermarket and I looked at the ingredients which were only hazelnuts, something he is not allergic to but still....I will never go there again btw. Not to mention the other popular pizza place that fries everything in peanut oil....View Thread
Emily is still processing it. The other night I went to check on her before bed and she was still awake. She said she couldn't go to sleep because she was thinking about Grandpa.
She keeps asking to go to visit him at his grave, too. I want some more time to pass, and the weather to get warmer before we do that.It will be hard when they go over to MIL's house, and when she takes them to the zoo alone. All in all, though, I think they are doing pretty well.View Thread
As my father in law would say, buy a bunch of loaves and freeze them. He freezes EVERYTHING!!!! Extra cake at a birthday party? Freeze it! Extra chinese food left over? Freeze it! LOL!View Thread
My DS tested positive for peanut allergy so we don't feed him peanuts - but I've never seen him react. It's really weird, considering Lily can't even touch milk without reacting, to have to avoid a food without any confirmation that there is a true allergy. But he has a severe speech delay and he's only 2 - so he can't say "my tongue itches" or tell us any little thing about how he's feeling - so a food challenge is just not in the cards right now. My allergist won't even consider it, which I appreciate.
If we had done a food challenge when DD was little, I know the milk would have been a no-go but I really doubt she would have had to avoid egg the way she did...but that was not the advice given 5 years ago. Too bad the testing is so hard to trust.View Thread
