I have two with young boys with allergies to Sesame and nuts. As with us, your dairy, egg and wheat allergies are going to make bakeries off limits. There are very few, if any bakeries that I would consider with your list of allergens. The good news is baking and cooking at home can be an activity with the kids. Baking safe foods and especially bread is not as time intensive as it once was. We have two bread machines and they have truly been amazing appliances. The bread is fresh, no preservatives and allergen free. You are not alone with your allergies. Every day is another day you have to plan for each meal, each birthday party and each day at school or camp. It's not an easy road, while trying to have your child live a "normal" life. Hopefully the bread machine tip will at least give you some relief and solutions to the very limited menu you have.

Before you go anywhere, please call ahead and speak to the manager on duty. We have found some serious inconsistencies in many chain restaurants. It is not good enough to have an allergy friendly menu, like Friday's as an example. It's the process behind the scenes that is of most importance. When I spoke to several Friday's restaurants, only a few of them could understand and communicate how they handle someone with the top-8 allergens. If you have a sesame or other allergy not on the top 8, you get even fewer that know how to handle food preparation to avoid cross contamination. My advice, although 9 months later is to start to trust the restaurants that deserve and earn your trust. Don't just take a new menu and assume they are safe.

Do they have a process, allergy list, what is their kitchen layout and will they custom prepare a meal for you safely. We are very strict with the restaurants to ensure only the best are ranked high. I always preach "Whatever you do tomorrow for the Super Bowl, please make sure that let your host know about your food allergies. Don't risk it if you are uncertain and always bring backup food", but wonder if there are more families that do order in and from where?View Thread
