I consider myself creative when it comes to put together a meal that's healthy. I been that way for a long way, probably we had a big familly...6 kids....and my mom cooked all the time. What mom back in the 60's didn't cook all the time...??. Anyway, I simplified the process of course....with as little as prep I get away with. I am all about simplicity.....but... with tasty meals. I can sit for a long time and just dream up recipes in my head. The other day I was at the pool, I had my notebook.... just thinking about meals i can cook. Also side dishes, deserts, etc. I was a writing fool. Maybe I am a little bit crazy. A long time ago....I wanted to make my own cook book but don't know how to go about it. I think it takes a lot of money, which...I don't have any.View Thread
I tried this the other day just to experiment. I didn't have any bread crumbs or flour. I had some Tilapia and wanted to cook them. I shredded a few pieces of 100% whole bread and then put them in the blender and pulsed them till they were grainy. Then I melted some "I Can't Believe it's not Butter" and put the fish in it. Put the fish in a big Zip-Loc bag a few pieces at a time. Line a sheet with 5 rows of fish for about 350 deg oven for 20 mins. Put lemon wedges on the plate and I add my own sauces to dip. My faves are seafood sauce, cucumber ranch dressing, tartar sauce.View Thread
I try to buy different green teas when I go to the store. I love fruity teas... I picked up Celestial "Cranberry and Pomegrante" green tea. The jury is still out. It has a pungent taste....bleeech .. I had to add sweetener, lemon....to cut the taste. I wanted to change my old habit of making a pot of coffee every day and I waste half the pot because I only drink 2 cups. I am drinking water....tons of it now.....during the day. I fill a 20 oz thermos and fill it about 4 times. I need some diversion besides the plain water....If i can find a really nice green tea.....I can make ice tea with it and it will be half intake of water. Any suggestions of really good flavored green teas. Thanks.View Thread
I am a new member too...It was hard to navigate these boards in the beginning. Since i got my blender, I make about 3 smoothies a day. I have frozen fruit; peaches, mangoes, pineapples, blueberries. Then i have the light yogurt: strawberry, berry, peach, banana, mango, pineapple, raspberry.....i cant name all of them. Sometimes i will add either skim milk, or juice to make the consistency i need. If you want a little sweetness, add a packet of artificial sweetenerView Thread
Thanks for the great recipe. For the "liquid" portion in smoothies....if you didnt have skim milk, I suppose you could use water. That reminds me, I made a great smoothie today. I don't have any flaxseed. I used "light"...blueberry juice, carton of strawberry light yogurt, some frozen blueberries and frozen pineapples. When you use the protein powder .....i am guessing the smoothie is more filling with powder. My sister was on a diet....and she had to have one to three protein shakes a day, along with tons of food.....it was a doctor prescribed diet. She lost a lot of weight.View Thread
Thanks for the reply. Sounds great, the only thing is...when you add the cocoa powder, brown sugar......does it overpower the taste of the fruit..??. I love chocolate and fruit, but together.... i have use my imagination.
I bought a blender yesterday, probably I am the only person that doesn't have a blender. Anyone, i went food shopping yesterday and got lots of fruits...cantalopes, strawberries, pears, bananas. Some freezer bags of fruit; blueberries, mango, pineapple. I have light yogurt and skim milk. Ok....I made a smoothie yesterday....I put a carton of blueberry yogurt, some frozen blueberries and a banana, blended it up. It would have been great if i didn't taste only banana...draats. I drank it anyway. I love bananas, but not overpower over fruits. Does anybody have good smoothie recipes. I have all the makings of smoothies, I want to combine according. What about skim milk, could that be the liquid portion, and what about the frozen berries....and/or yogurt.
I wonder too... .but when i think about all those servings of veggies we are supposed to get in a day. To tell the truth, I don't have veggies around all the times. Especially when I am in-between shopping trips. My sister was a diet and bought those cans of V8 cans...yukkk. That contain over 500 gms of sodium each. How can they be good or any diet.View Thread
I can't remember where I saw on the net, maybe was WebMd. I am talking about the packages that you put in water, they have vegetables in them. I figure that I started with the water thing again......I fill a 20 oz thermos for four times a day. If I could one or two of those instant veggie packages inn the water that would be great.View Thread
