Diet Coke is not supposed to affect your blood sugar, but it may have different effects on different people. Personally, I use stevia- it doesn't mess up my blood sugar and it doesn't taste bad. But Coke doesn't use it.
I don't know your personal carb target number, but I know that in general if you eat protein with carbs they are digested better. Avoiding refined sugar in large amounts is generally helpful too, and that does include honey. I personally do best when I avoid grains and white potatoes but I know that isn't for everyone.
You may find additional help at http://exchanges.webmd.com/diabetes-exchange if you haven't checked it out already.View Thread

Oh yeah... how about coconut oil! It can be spread on things, added to things, it has a light taste and it's great for your skin and hair. Coconut on it's own is nice too and has fat in it. PetuniaPea is totally right about the pumpkin seeds. You can even find hulled ones, which are awesome as a snack, in breads, in cakes, in soups, or in salads or quinoa or rice dishes, like she said!View Thread

You could do vegetable stir fry with meat on the side you add for him, or pasta with meatballs that you add to his half of the sauce, or a pizza with veggie toppings on one side and meat toppings on his. You could do a pita or sandwich bar and add cold cuts to his side of things. You could do big dinner salads with cut up meat for him. Also, you could bake chicken breasts or steak and cut it up, and have a container of meat pieces in the fridge that you just add to one of your normal meals so he has the meat.
Finally, if he barbecues, do kebabs... veggie and mushroom ones for you, and meat ones for him, and make him do the cooking! Good luck.View Thread

Black tea is fine for you, it's what you put in it that isn't. Black tea, white tea, green tea, red tea, all have antioxidents and varying levels of nutrients. It's the sweeteners that mess with you, and the varying quality of leaves. I prefer loose leaf Ceylonese black, which I buy by the kilo (about $25 a kilo and it lasts me six months) and I make it nice and strong. Sweetened with stevia, there isn't a negative impact for me. I spice it up sometimes with a little cocoa powder, or some cinnamon, or some chinese five-spice, or a dried hibiscus flower. All are good hot or cold.View Thread

Avocado is great. Healthy fats in it, and lots of nutrition. Have you tried sesame oil?...

Avocado is great. Healthy fats in it, and lots of nutrition. Have you tried sesame oil? It's really tasty and lends a nice roasted flavor. Not just nuts, but nut butters are nice. How about a smoothie with cashew butter and banana with almond milk? If you get a food processor, you can make your own nut butters. Of course, carbs help pack on the pounds too, so don't forget your rice noodles, bean noodles, etc. I mention these because everybody already knows about bread and potatoes and normal sources of carbohydrates.View Thread

Also, it should be noted that building mucle doesn't mean getting bulky. It takes a lot of work to do that. Building muscle can also mean looking leaner and holding yourself straighter so you end up looking thinner even when you aren't. Meanwhile, you can be a little stronger and more capable. Best of luck with everything. Thyroid testing is a good idea too.View Thread

I guess this is kind of a nutritional question. If your nails chip they may be brittle. This can have a number of causes. Maybe they are drying out a lot because it's wintertime. Maybe you are washing your hands a lot or soaking them in water and this is weakening them. There are lots of things that could be going on. Is there discoloration?
You can help build up your nail strength by using a fortifying clear nail strengthener, and especially by making sure you eat enough protein and healthy oils. Vitamin E can help too. Eat your eggs and nuts and fish, if you can get it, especially salmon or sardines. Here's some more information.

I wonder if you cut the food up really, really small he would take it better? Could he be afraid of the size? How about blender drinks, such as fruit smoothies? I imagine that acting as calm and unconcerned as you can would lessen the "drama factor" as well. He could be picking up on your understandable concern and it could be frightening him more too.View Thread
