If we make turkey everyone in my house fights over the dark meat. LOL.
But, we all love ham, so that's usually what I make for Thanksgiving dinner. I settle on the pineapple rings with toothpicks and then glaze the ham with a brown sugar/honey concoction. I don't use a recipe really, so it's hard to share it. I'll see if I can think about how much of this and that to add.
After I glaze the ham, I go back and pat brown sugar onto the top of the ham, so that when it cooks it bakes on a sweet crust along with the glaze.
The biggest problem I have in my fridge is all the pickles, jams, jellies, and condiments that might be used more rarely and get pushed to the back.
One thing I have done recently is stopped trying to shop for an entire week at a time. I find that I don't have room in my fridge, and things tend to go bad because they get lost in the fridge jungle. Ugh.
Here's what my fridge looks like right this minute. Please try to ignore the boxed cheesecake.
My son wants to have a Halloween party this year for his teen friends, and I am going to need some spooky treats.
I bought a cookie pan at Target the other day and the shapes were fingers! I am going to give those a try.
This idea is not a snack, but last year I made punch. I had bought a mold that looks like a brain and I froze pink koolaid in it, then made lemonade punch, added dry ice, and floated the brain in there. It was yummy and creepy!
Leftover pork also makes really good BBQ. I just put it in the crock pot on low and add a tiny bit of water to it. Let the pork cook until it starts to break apart, remove any excess liquid, add BBQ sauce to it, and you've got a pulled pork type BBQ that you can just toss on a bun and have for lunch or dinner.
One of my go-tos when throwing together a quick meal is using leftover meats to create a salad that's a meal.
For instance, last night I chopped up romaine lettuce, colored bell peppers, and onions, then added slices of steak from a couple of nights ago that I had re-heated by sauteing. Once I mixed in all the meat and veggies, I shaved a little parmesan cheese over it.
You can get creative with any leftover meat you have, and sometimes toss in a little leftover pasta as well.
