My Story:
Hi, I'm Beth Anderson. This is a photo of my with my daughter Katie who was born in 1990. Her GERD was diagnosed when she was three days old. Mine was diagnosed when I was about 40.

Katie's heartburn caused constant pain and she was not able to gain weight. I started www.reflux.org and the Pediatric Adolescent Gastroesophageal Reflux Association in 1992. I started it to help parents compare notes and learn from each other. Back then, the doctors didn't have a lot of ideas, but other parents were a goldmine of information.

My GERD affects my voice. When it flares up, it hurts to talk and my voice gets hoarse. Oddly, I don't feel any pain in my esophagus.
