I went to the dr's on Tuesday to have an ultrasound because of the abnormal bleeding I have been having off and on for the last three months and am confused by what occurred that day. First off, it only took 15 mins for her to do both a pelvic and a transvaginal ultrasound. I have had these in the past and they have taken at least 30-40 mins. Then as I was leaving I saw an image up on the ultrasound machine that almost looked like the profile of a baby...maybe I am imagining things I don't know...but of course now it has been three days and I still do not know the results. I am concerned that what I saw was not a "baby" but just some sort of growth. By the way I have taken several pregnancy tests over the last several weeks and all are negative. I was thinking though that the tech must have found what was causing the problem right away otherwise I think it may have taken longer to find it. What is someone's input on this, I am curious if anyone else has had this happen to them.View Thread
I have PCOS and was diagnosed with it in 2006, I do have irregular periods (a majority of the time none at all), have insulin resistance with it, and pretty much every symptom you could think of. I have been put on Metformin (which is actually a diabetic med) to help regulate the insulin resistance and in turn helps with regulating my periods.
It has been explained to me that with PCOS, you have excess estrogen in your system that prevents regular menstrual cycles so from time to time they may give you Provera or Prometrium to supplement the progesterone that allows you to shed your uterine lining. The birth control pill has both estrogen and progesterone which is why they seem to prescribe it the most. But "special" people like me, who have developed multiple Pulmonary Embolisms while on birth control because of an even larger dose of estrogen, can't be put on it because of the high risk and the only options to help me is the Metformin, diet, excercise, anything without hormonal help.
I have had times where they have done an ultrasound and I have not had a cyst present at the time in my either of my ovaries, and other times I have had several small cysts but I do have show all the other symptoms of PCOS.
I have had abnormal bleeding since July 7, 2012. I do not have cramping with it and the blood is dark brown to black and not a large amt like my normal cycle. The first time in July lasted 2 1/2 wks, Aug lasted 6 days, then started bleeding again two weeks later on Sept 9 that lasted until Sept 24, then again two weeks later on Oct 6 and so far on day 5. I am having some pelvic pain though and pressure/fullness....was definitely worse with a tampon in and when my husband and I had intercourse two weeks ago. I do have PCOS, a history of PE's(pulmonary embolisms) due to birth control, and history of miscarriage.
I saw my OB/GYN today, he told me several things: 1) that it is good that I am on Metformin again for my PCOS (recently put back on it from the endo); 2) that the abnormal bleeding could be caused by an abnormal growth or precancerous cells due to my history with irregular periods and so forth; 3) I may have to have a hysteroscopy w/ a d&C to try to find the issue and then send the samples to a pathologist for further evaluation; 4) and that to first evaluate what is going on I will need an ultrasound.
So talk about a lot to take in but I am glad he was very straight forward with me in talking about all possibilities. I have my ultrasound on Tues Oct 16th and then will have to await the results, something that I am not good at....waiting. So we will see but in the mean time has anyone else had this happen and what was your outcome?View Thread
I am 31 yrs old and have PCOS, I was seen by an endocrinologist in June to get further treatment for it and was put back on Metformin 500mg daily. In July I had abnormal spotting that was dark brown to black in color and it lasted for 2 1/2 weeks, then in August it came again this time for only 6 days, and only 2 1/2 weeks later on Sept 9 it started again. It is still going on making it 11 days now. I am not cramping or having any clots with this spotting which is highly unusual. My normal menstrual cycle goes from light with dark brown/black spotting to a heavier flow with bright red bleeding with clotting and then back with light darker spotting....it only lasts 3 to 4 days.
Does anyone have any idea what this may be? I did make an appt with my ob/gyn but won't see him until October.View Thread
The first two times that I was put on Metformin, after I was first diagnosed with PCOS it did in fact regulate my cycles (I did get pregnant after I started each time: started Metformin, had my first son, was put back on Metformin after having him, became pregnant with my second son). But when I was prescribed Metformin two additional times after having my second son, my body was too sensitive to the medication even at 500mg.
So hear I am again giving it a go again this time through the endo, and now I am having all of this odd bleeding. I just had it start on Sept 9 and ended on 24th. Now yesterday it started again Oct 6th....had to reschedule my appt with the ob/gyn for Wed Oct 10th.....just really not sure what is going on never had this happen before.View Thread
Hello, My name is Melissa and I am 30yrs old and have 2 little boys.I just had a pelvic ultrasound done due to pelvic pain and some abnormal bleeding I had three weeks ago. I got a copy of the report and it stated that my uterus was still enlarged at 13.4cm x 5.0cm x 7.0cm (I had a ultrasound in May for pelvic pain also), endometrial canal echoes measured 2mm in abdominally and 4mm transvag, my left ovary did not have any cysts but they could visualize my right ovary, and the new thing that has arised that was mentioned is that no uterine solid mass lesion is seen but there at least 6 uterine cysts measuring <8mm and the largest is 7mm that was seen and was adjacent to the endometrium. I have never had this problem before, I do have PCOS and so I am excited that this time I do not have cysts in my left ovary but wonder why they couldn't see my right ovary? There were no issues seeing it 6mths ago.
I am just worried that because new things have taken place in 6mths time, I have only had 1 actual period on my own this year so far, which was back in July and have not had one since. I am trying a new gyno to see if he can help me with my PCOS but now I am concerned that I may have something even more pressing going on. Any ideas?View Thread
