The last Holter I had was in 2012. It was billed at $308 and Medicare Advantage paid $95.51.
But it it is done as part of a hospital outpatient clinic and not by the doctors office it will be higher.
But you need to ask in advance what the cost are and work out a payment plan. By default they will charge the "list price" which is much higher than the amount that they will accept from insurance companies. Where is the best place to buy a blood pressure monitor? How much do I have to spend on a good quality one?
You want one that measures on the upper arm, not the wrist.
Amazon is a good place. Omron is a good named brand. And they have one "manual" model that is about $35. It has a bulb that you use to pump it up. But it has the digital sensor and read out as the others. It just lacks the electric pump.
You can also look at Walmart, Wlagreens, CVS, etc. Sometime they have good prices on house brands.
But since you are having a Holter monitor test they suspect that you might have an irregular heart rate. If you do that sometime confuses the home style monitors. Before you buy one talk to your doctor about this.View Thread
I don't know if the doctor that saw the regurgitation and recommended the repair was the same one that did the surgery or not.
But first go back to that doctor and ask about the specifics of what the original problem was.
One of the most common problems in older people is that posterior leaflets become lose and floppy. This is one of the easier repairs. Some of the other types of failure are more difficult to repair and are recommended to be repaired by surgeons that do lots of the more specialized repairs.
Then talk to your surgeon about went wrong with your surgery and what confidence that it can be repaired with the redo.
Also ask him how many of these types of repairs that he does. And what percentage are repaired on the first try.
Then get a copy of your records on the test of the regurgitation and the surgery reports.
Then find another surgeon that does mitral valve repair. Have him review the records and then ask him the same questions.
And if you get conflicting opinion you might want to find a 3rd opinion.
The more know the more confidence you will have in your decision.View Thread
