I am hardly trying to tell you that you don't need to see a doctor by saying what I am about to. I am just giving my two cents. It sounds like you lead a rather healthy life and that means that heart problems are rather unlikely unless they were congenital. That's not to say that you might not have heart problems. There are all sorts of heart issues that can manifest at all ages. I can't really speak on whether or not your issues are hormone related because I am not a woman. I can say though that I also suffer from some pretty severe anxiety and it has caused chest pain. Granted I also have a congenital heart defect, but all signs point toward the anxiety as the cause. If you really are worried and you have good insurance, why not just go and see your doctor and mention your concerns. The worst thing that could happen is that they fix whatever is ailing you. I hope that made sense and wasn't just a wall of text.View Thread

Thank you for your concern. The reason that I did not bring up the congenital myopathy earlier is because it has nothing to do with the heart and therefore did not have anything to do with the post until I mentioned elevated CPK levels. I do not know for certain if there is or is not a condition called a musculoskeletal congential myopathy. I simply know what my parents told me and what the doctors told them. I am sorry if you believe that I am a hypochondriac, I am simply trying to make sense of what is happening to me and trying to find a way to deal with it.View Thread

I just wanted to mention that I am going in soon to have my CPK levels checked. I really don't know what to make of that since they were elevated as a child, which led to my parent's fearing that I might have muscular dystrophy, but I have read that elevated CPK levels can be a sign of heart attack or stroke as well as muscle damage from diseases like MD. I really don't know if this test is necessary, but because it is just getting a little blood drawn I am more than willing to go through with it. Is it possible that the episode I experienced was a heart attack and this will cause my CPK levels to be elevated or is the possibility that my CPK levels might be elevated no more than a side effect of the non-degenerative musculoskeletal congenital myopathy that I have. Should I even be worrying that the pains have not abated and have recently been coming on while sitting or standing and doing nothing? This is a relatively new occurrence.View Thread

I actually spoke with the physical therapist who said that the pains really did not sound like a musculo-skeletal issue and that there was very little he could do for me. He did prescribe some stretches to work on posture which I have been doing.View Thread

I forgot to answer your question, the pain is usually around a seven, i.e bad enough to make me grind my teeth together, and I can induce it stronger by running rather than walking. The only thing I find strange is that I have never experienced pains during the stress tests I have undergone.View Thread

Like I said, thank you for listening to me and actually responding with helpful information. I spoke with my physician and asked for a nuclear stress test at which point I was told that the test was unnecessary and was not to be ordered. Therefore I am likely to believe that what I am experiencing is nothing more than over exertion. I will continue to journal the pain, although I have been bad lately and not exercising at all, and I will present that if I can get up the nerve to ask about the pains anymore. Thank you again for all your advice.View Thread

I want to know if you think I should push for a nuclear stress test or a coronary cath based on the fact that I experience exercise induced pains. The pains in question are a dull achy pain that is localized to behind my sternum. I also get short of breath when I experience these pains. The pains come on after 30 or so minutes of light exercise or as little as 10 minutes of moderate to heavy exercise. The pains go away as soon as I rest for 1-5 minutes.View Thread

Thank you very much for all your help in responding to my questions like this and reassuring me that I am most likely experiencing anxiety. The pains I experience usually come on gradually as I work harder and harder and don't go away until I cease all exercise at which point they go away after at most five minutes. These pains did not get worse if I breathed in and could not be replicated by pressing on the chest. I actually did journal the chest pains at one point and aside from about three incidents in which the pain came on from extreme stress, these were solely exercise induced pains. I will however journal the pains again so that I have something to read over and really determine if I am just getting worked up over anxiety. Once again thank you for your quick responses and for humoring me like this.View Thread

Do you think I should push for an cardiac cath if I continue to experience the pains or just leave it there because they did a stress echo and it came back normal?View Thread

I eat a diet that is high in saturated fats, calories, sodium, and sugar. I understand that I really need to change that because the doctor just told me that. I plan to cut out all the foods that are high in these sorts of things. I think that the doctor may very well be correct and that it is just anxiety because the stress test showed no blockages on the EKG and the echo cardiogram came back normal.View Thread
