I remember years ago my eyes would always dilate super large. Now it is only sometimes or it doesn't last as long or get quite as large.View Thread

Also, since you have had your say and plugged your Depth community, I kindly request that you do not keep posting here just to keep telling everyone that their ideas are wrong and yours are right and that we need to join your community over and over again. If you would like to actually provide more information about it, then please do. But as you have already expressed, you only wish disclose your details in private because of your concerns, so I do not see you being able to add anything more too substantial. So please, if you are going to keep chiming in then back yourself up. Otherwise, let the rest of us continue our search without constantly being nitpicked. Thank You.View Thread

My only agenda is to discover what exactly this ability is and this whole Depth thing is vague and sounds like pseudo-science. You guys describing this ability as if it is some sort of super power that must be kept out of the hands of irresponsible people sounds like a comic plot.
I have not really made any assumptions. I have described my feelings about your group and my hunches that you are in someway not legit (whether you realize that or not.) I have made no definitive assertions so I have nothing that I need to backup. On the other hand, you guys are claiming to have all the answers which means the burden of proof lies with you. And when the only way someone can get that proof if through filling out your little PDF document and submitting personal information or contacting you in private that makes me think that it seems shady. Like I said, it up to each person to decide if they believe your reasoning that this power is too dangerous to let the general public have knowledge of and if they want to contact you or not. I have chosen not to.View Thread

I do appreciate that it specifically denounces any claim of special energy or spiritual phenomenon, yet I cannot shake off a feeling of mysticism that seems to be portrayed which I am just not into. Honestly, it could be the same thing as are surging, but it sounds as if this Depth Inc. created an unnecessary fabrication around the whole thing.
We will probably not find ourselves meeting on common ground here, so I guess anyone who finds your group credible and intriguing is free to contact you. Personally, I find that Depth contributes nothing relevant to my search. Good luck with your semi-secret society though.View Thread

I really do not think they are the same thing. Surging seems to have two aspects: adrenaline-type response and an endorphin-type response. I have been meaning to do more research about whether normal fight or flight responses have an endorphin type response naturally and to what extent (or vice versa.)
Regardless, it makes sense that if there is a pleasure/endorphin aspect to surging that it would give us a pleasant sensation and that one place we might experience this sensation is our head. I do not think that this is convincing enough correlation with ASMR for us to start saying that they are the same thing, on the contrary, from all the explanations I have read on the matter I am quite convinced that they are two separate phenomena.
You also made a comment, 'it clearly isn't a disease'. While I agree with your sentiment, I would not want to completely rule out that the our ability is a possible side effect of something such as a tumor, for example. Who knows, could also be nerve damage or some strange mutation, maybe it is a remnant from an old evolutionary neural pathway used by one of our ancestors that we happened to obtain a gene expression for, an ability that we once had that lies dormant in most of the population, but that we have by chance happened back upon.View Thread

- intercessor : Entreaty in favor of another, especially a prayer or petition to God in behalf of another.

So are you on some sort of a religious, spiritual agenda? Personally, I am looking for real answers and plausible hypotheses, not just random gut feelings and ideas about spirits or special energy. There is a distinct, real world, physiological mechanism at work and I would like to discover the source of our ability to trigger it.
You seem suspicious. Why must we email you? If you truly know something why don't you simply share? Are you trying to lure in the gullible ones and get them to sign on to some pyramid scheme? Is there really such thing as a 'Depth Philosophy' or did you just now make it up? I sure couldn't find anything on it. Give us a website or group page or something so we can check it out please.View Thread

Regardless, it does appear to be a completely different phenomenon than surging, though it is interesting comparing the two. It is also hard because sometimes when I think I may be experiencing an ASMR episode, I sort of unintentionally do a mini-surge in response so it blurs the line between what I am actually experiencing.
And just to elaborate on what I mean by mini-surge: Surging for me is definitely like a dimmer switch rather than a conventional flip switch; you do not just turn it on, you actively choose how intense to surge. And when I do a very low level surge it is a very calm and pleasurable almost meditative feeling without the adrenal rush part. Sometimes even just anticipating surging seems to sometimes set off a low-level surge which is really interesting because then you are using a sort of biofeedback mechanism and triggering the response simply with a thought and not any actual will, sort of like a somewhat more controlled and pleasant anxiety attack.
Sorry if I have confused anyone with all my anecdotal descriptions. I wish we had scientific data on both ASMR and surging to better clarify our discussions.

Biofeedback is basically conditioning a sort of conscious reaction is response to being fed data showing that you are achieving the desired effect. I probably did not explain that very well, but you can check out that link for better information.
This is different than what us surgers do as we simply will our responses to happen just as you would flex a muscle.
In response to your game I would think that anyone playing it would maybe start running in place or maybe even drink some caffeinated beverage if it helped them to excel at the game and I suppose if they were really into it maybe they could over- do it. Maybe you could place some sort off fail safe mechanism where their heart rate cannot exceed a certain limit for a certain duration. Put in mandatory breaks between heart rate missions that require their heart rate to return to a lower level. Sort of like running circuits.View Thread

At times it also almost seems that laying down on my back makes easier to enjoy the sensation. And I swear that sometimes when standing a certain way or sitting a certain way that it almost feels inhibited but if I maybe lean against a counter or adjust myself to a different position then I am able to surge better? Is this something anyone else has experienced or is it just in my head?View Thread

Couple of things you mentioned that I have been meaning to comment on. At one point you commented that you were not holding your breath. I find that when I surge I typically do tend hold my breath and it makes it easier to maintain it. I can do it while breathing, but it is almost as if I have to make a conscious effort and concentrate on breathing and surging at the same time. A common surge motif that has come up is that its effects are temporary and that one has to keep the 'surge spring' pushed down. I have found that if I flex my muscles (isometrics) while surging, it seems that I can surge more potently and with more stamina.
You also mentioned that it felt like you had just been frightened. I have wanted to discuss how people experience this in a more mental/emotional capacity. I would say that I almost never get the sensation of being afraid or frightened like you described. I would say the feeling for me is better characterized by the term.. primal, perhaps. I feel energetic, and sort of feel like going for a run or boxing or competing. But there is definitely something missing from how I normally experience anxiety or sudden fright, an emotional aspect or real sense of danger that is not present. Interested to see if others have differing ideas of the fear factor present.
Having said that, I can seem to alter my perception of the surge in two ways depending on my mindset. One way, which makes sense intuitively, is that I can feel aggressive and turn the surge into a very angry experience. I don't do this for any practical reason usually, but sometimes it is interesting to interpret it differently and get into a rage, maybe if I am lifting something heavy or pushing myself aerobically.
The second way I experience it is as extreme pleasure. If I am in a more agreeable mindset and relaxed the whole feeling of high energy is sort of replaced my a surge of what I suspect must be a load of endorphins. (I am sure most of you noticed that surging is a great pain-reliever, at least short term.) But really this pleasure surge puts my whole body into a euphoric state that for lack of a better term is orgasmic. Without getting into too much detail, I would severely miss surging when it comes to its ability to augment sexual activity. Though usually I do a surge sort of as a pick-me-up, I guess a natural high?
Like I said before though, the default is that surging simply gives me an energy/alertness boost, but depending on my mindset my experience of surging can vary significantly. I do not know if this is the same for others or if it is maybe more one-dimensional for you? Would like to hear more about it. (Preferably without getting into meditation or chi/energy talk.)
Would be cool to see a video of a heart rate monitor that updates in real time so that we could see the heart rate spike at you actually surge. Possible?
One last thing, where are you from lewishornsby?View Thread
