The few who really have a clue are EG, myself, Josvin, jc3737, and I'm not quite sure which others. And the doctors whose programs we advocate. ANY one else is suspect and laughable as to what they think they know.
There is some personal variability on the diet issues. When in doubt, more strict and cautious on fat intake, not less.
Stress is SUCH a major factor. I found Dean Ornish, M.D. had a book specifically on that topic, Love and Survival. I am reading that now.
For some lighter fare, I recommend books by Mary Roach. I've read "Bonk", and now reading "Stiff".
Playing lots of volleyball, 2 to 4 times a week, and rowing occsaionally.

Weight out of the shower, same time of day ?
One or two pounds a week loss is the consistent pattern of those who lose weight and keep it off.
Keep in mind that its still calories in, and calories out. Don't simply cut wheat but allow fat in your diet. By weight, fat has far more calories.
Are you adding some very low cal finger veggies like celery stick or carrot sticks ? A glass of water now and then instead of anything else ? Eating the same foods, but smaller portion sizes ?
Have you added an hour a day more activity ? Even if it is just walking ?View Thread

How goes your current exercise program ?
I am using my weight vest more often on the treadmill, but down at 12 lbs, and more or less unlimited time, 20-60 minutes or so. Occasionally at higher weight for shorter times.
A little volleyball specific weight training has given me an improving serve with some aces now and then, and great knee pads allow me to get some low digs even the young folks can't handle. Having fun. My daughters are loving rowing when the weather is/was nice, so getting out more for my exercise.View Thread

Somehow WebMD chopped out parts of my reply.View Thread

That article in Scientific American is atrocious. Who was the semi-scientist moron who selected it, and which ones approved it ?
There will be people who read nothing but the title, and go around spouting that anti-oxidants are not important. The title makes no suggestion it refers to supplements. Such a blanket title is NOT compelling to most people to read an article, especially in Scientific American.
Even in WebMD, your title selection is worrisome, since it suggests you, too believe, them a myth for health benefits.
Some people will read further, many will not.
Short clear cut statements are what most people learn from.View Thread

We're both still kickin' and writing. Affect someone life's one at a time.
Not too long ago an account at work asked me about my daily regular breakfast in the short order line, and daily salad at the salad bar. Turns out he had had daily angina for many months, easily aggravated, and his doctor did nothing about it. I told him to insist on additional care, and he received a stent not long after that, relieving most of his chest pain. In the following months, he asks me more questions, and is improving his diet and cutting back (!) his smoking.
I'm apparently known as the crazy old guy where I play volleyball. I'm about double most people's age, or more, but
plenty of energy.View Thread

I am passing this post on for a fellow from a !Yahoo heart Disease Support group who sent me this in an e-mail.
"Well my diet just took a turn downward. My gastrointestinal doctor has told me I cant eat any uncooked veggies. No more salads, broccoli, collyflower, corn, brussell sprouts or any hard veggie. I have a threatened bowel obstruction that I have to try to keep from haveing surgery on. He said I could have steak only if it is cut up in baby sized bites. My wife jokeingly said she would put things in a blender and he said that would be a good idea. Due to my numerous abdominal surgeries I have alot of adhesions which are causeing an abstruction. It all started with a simple reflux surgery then I had emergancy surgery for a perferated stomach. Then six months later I had a insisional hernia which was done lap. then I had a bowel obstruction and cut open. Then I had all sorts of problems such as distention and would have to go on liquids till it resolved. This got to where I was haveing the problem three times a week. A doctor said that I would have to live with this till it got bad enough for surgery which he thought would be up to two years. Two and a half years later which was nov. of 2011 I had extensive surgery to remove an infective mesh which had perferated my colon and the surgery lasted for over two and a half hours with two surgeons doing the surgery. Three months later I started again with the distention problem and I started myself back on liquids. When it got bad, at least three times a week, I saw the surgeon who did the last surgery and he said he thought it was from the adhesions but run some tests to see. Well he had me see my gastro doc. and here I am all over again. Now I am back to square one till it gets bad enough again and causes a blockage that wont resolve. Anything that might have even a small chance of being hard to digest or clump I cant have. Do you have any suggestions of some good foods???"

First I dampen the brown rice, then add double the volume of water. And a pinch of salt, dollop of olive oil. Spice to taste.
Does not seem difficult to prepare at all.View Thread

Somehow I am not getting posts from this board. I will check the box more conscientiously.
