While I can't disagree with Fuhrman on the importance of high nutrient density promoting good health, I do take issue with dismissing some perfectly good foods because they are low on the list of the profile he uses. Just because they don't have lots of whatever it is he is counting doesn't mean that there isn't some perfectly useful and vital nutrient whose absence in the diet might wreak havoc. Not that you might not find that nutrient elsewhere (beans have plenty of copper) but it is nice to have a choice of good things.

I saw some recipes for some smoothies in Fuhrman's book and wondered why you just can't eat the ingredients instead of tossing them into the vita mix. Unlike juicing which requires a ton of fruits and vegetables just to get one glass of juice, the smoothie retains all of the ingredients, albeit, a lot smoother.

The nutritional yeast I bought has folic acid in it. One tablespoon provides 40% of the daily value for B12 but it also provides 40% of the DV for folic acid. After years and years of saying women (especially pregnant women) need folic acid and providing it in all the pre natal vitamins the doctor prescribed, they now say you should not be taking it. I do not worry about folic acid because I eat so many greens and beans.
So I get very nervous about not getting enough and occasionally eat canned wild caught sockeye salmon.

I bought some nutritional yeast for the B12 but when I got it home, discovered it contains quite a bit of folic acid which I do not want. So now I have to find something else.
