At least we agree about one thing beans and other foods are full of healthy nutrients. That is very important point in my view.
I think our bodies are endowed with the powers to heal and keep us in good health. To achieve and maintain this healthy state we need to replenish our body with minerals, essential fats, vitamins and other nutrients found in natural whole foods.
Research does say that we need these nutrients for good health and beans, seeds, nuts, whole grains and green leafy vegetables seem to be full of them. That is enough research for me.
Research is what the pharmacy industry and FDA do to make health claims for drugs and we know that those claims are not always true.View Thread

Take the Poll

DMW:
Doctors never give a straight answer and if they do it is dressed in statistics. But yes my cardio said it was best to have bypass surgery asap because one of the blockages at the start of LAD was at 90-95% blocked. Risks were so high that if nothing was done soon then yeah I would not have long to live. "How long", I asked. "A year to year and a half. Of course we wont let it get that far", he replied.
I have included some information about diet, exercise and meditation under "my story".View Thread

DMW. I totally agree. I also select the best from many information sources then try and see how my body, heart and mind reacts.
After some time we create our own list of foods to have and foods to avoid. My own and my family's conclusion is that this works. I have no angina, shortness of breath, swollen ankels and feet or any other illness for that matter in the last seven years. Life is GOOD.

So when are you going to tell us that you sprinkle some salt on your beans.

Unfortunately there are no regular tests. Doctors here do not believe in reversal and they assure me there is no valid reason for further tests. Argument being that the diagnosis and the action required are very clear and seeing that I will not agree to a bypass the it would be waste of time and resources!
I let it go at that. To get tested I would need to travel to US or Far East to a private practice.
Truth is I have survived seven years when I was given 12 to 18 months. I feel good and I am enjoying my life, so I think at least the arteries are NOT clogging up and maybe they are clearing up.

OK. I am convinced. I am back on pomegranate juice starting today. Lets see what happens over the next three to four weeks.
No french fries is easy. My last meal with french fries was more than seven years ago. I have not had a single one since then.
As for whole grains, I eat very little bread but I do eat some oats on a daily basis. Well I cut down grains after reading articles from Dr. Davis heartscan blog. He blames grains for almost everything. I am not sure about grains but to be safe in my condition, extremely blocked arteries- same as DMW, I have reduced, almost eliminated, wheat products.

Thank you both for your encouraging words as it ceratinly helps to hear positive feedback.
DMW lets see if I understand what you write: low LDL helps with EPC process and pomegranate juice helps boost paraoxonase. I tried the juice few years ago but did not really notice any change but I will give it another ago. I used to drink between 4-6 ounces once a day. How much juice do you drink per day?

At your current cholesterol levels your body is NOT making any more plaque. You are in reversal zone. Simply said there is no new plaque that needs to be made stable.
Lets see what your cardio has to say. "Stay on lipitor because it has many other benefits that we dont fully understand."
My numbers (see discussion from testerday) are total 160 hdl 36 ldl 101. That is without lipitor for the last three years. Either I am lucky, as my cardio reasons that I am beating all the odds, or I am staying healthy beacuse of my lifestyle.View Thread

I have tried to raise HDL numbers with execise, vitamin d etc. in combination with Ornish/Fuhrman diet without success.
My lipid results during these last three years have been :
Total Ch. = 160, LDL = 101, HDL= 35 and TG = 106.
What do you think, are these numbers in the good range for someone trying to reverse heart disease?
