I am no therapist of any sort but I would want to believe this has occurred because there is less courage needed to admit this to someone who is not as close as a partner (spouse) and the fear of what the future holds without understanding the infection in its totality, could easily lead to unclear thinking processes.
For me, admitting an infection of this level to anyone was difficult when first learning that I had tested positive. Just the same, what a recently diagnosed spouse needs most at this stage is compassion and understanding.
I might add too, that, I would advise anyone who learns of their own infection to keep the information within their circle of friends and family without any kind of open-public admission. Though HCV does not have the stigma found with HIV infection, ignorance of it can certainly bring about much fear and unnecessary fear mongering, which can lead to prejudices.View Thread
Staying positive is a must. I, too, will be entering treatment within the next couple of weeks, only after delaying because of low percentage of eradication. The new drugs making up a threesome cocktail raises the percentage of success and now is the time. There is another drug in the pipeline, which is a pill or two a day treatment, but it was only placed on fast track by FDA in recent weeks. Fast track isn't as fast as we would like (5-10 years). I chose to do the new cocktail now with hope of success, however, if it does not work for me, I will place my hopes in the drug on fast track that shows promise of 90% success rate for type 1a.
Stay positive no matter what; cancer patients do, why can't hcv patients do the same.View Thread
Precisely. Transmission rate for open sores is amazingly low. I choose not to repeat what the specialist at Duke Uni Hosp. shared with me because it would only lead to lowering of one's guard. The other tidbit of info I was given was, the virus can only survive about a week outside host blood.
I still find myself ever cautious about sharing blades and toothbrush. My toothbrush stays in a container glass containing hydrogen peroxide and is put up. I even go to the lengths of keeping my own tooth paste.
Always get checked when unsure of exposure, it'll save you the worry. View Thread
The FDA has recently approved fast-track status for Inhibitex's INX-189. If you had to guess or for that matter had good information available to you of this new drug, what would be an estimated time frame in which we could expect to this treatment option to be available in the marketplace?
Personally, I am not a good candidate for interferon, have great hepatic panel numbers after 20+ years of possible infection, am infected with genotype 1a, and have evidence of mild fibrosis. With that said, I am so anxiously awaiting this drug to treat infections of those like me.
