My doc says I will be on the Imuran for life. If I went off the meds and then had a relapse I might not be able to recover. I was tapered off the pred over a 18 month period and started on the imuran a year into the treatment. I have read the info and most people relapse. Is your doc a liver doctor? My doc says there is no way to know the cause. Unless you overdosed on something, or did something to stress your liver, like excessive drinking.
I work full time in health care. I have learned to pace myself. During the week save most of my energy for work, on the weekends catch up on housework and chores. I still go thru periods of little sleep, but for the most part get at least 6-8 hours a night. As the predisone dose goes down so will the sleeplessness. I wish you much luck.
I have known I have AIH since 2009, was 44 at the time. I also type 2 diabetes, Hashimotot's thyroid, and joint pain. I am on imuran 100 mg right now, but took pred for a about 2 years. My doc feels I am good right now and will continue on Imuran for the rest of my life. I have a lot of ups and downs with AIH. Have had several issues associated with the meds. and being immune supressed. When I get a cold now it takes much longer to get rid of and often develops into something that requires antibotics. I am tired most of the time. I have a different lifestyle now, mostly just work and home. If I try to do more I end up on the couch recovering. I am just now coming to accept things.View Thread
