I am worried as my bp keeps going up every time I take it
Some people are sensitive to anxiety and anxiety can increase BP.
Also BP and change during the day and activity.
Even minor changes in the way that BP is taken in the doctors office can cause a 20 point, or more, difference. Things like if you feet and back are supported, full bladder, rushing to the appointment, etc.
Life style changes such as diet, exercise, losing weight, typically take weeks to months to effect BP. But they are the most effective method and have many other beneficial "side effects".View Thread
Yes, anxiety can have a big effect on blood pressure.
You might want to try some relaxation techniques. They include things like deep breathing exercises, yoga, meditation, and guided imagery.
You might ask your doctor about an ambulatory BP test. That takes reading every 15 to 30 minutes. But since you won't see the results until the end that helps reduce the anxiety, except for the first couple of time, and give a better idea of your true BP over the day.
Studies have shown that taking at least one BP med at night usually gives better BP control over the day.
I am surprised that you are on Toporol, a beta blocker. Beta blockers have been used in the past for high BP and are still first line med for some other conditions current guild lines show that the are not the best for high BP.
A diuretic, ACEinhbitor/ABR, or calcium channel blocker are the first choice. And beta blockers, unless there is another reason to use them, are only added if the above are not enough.View Thread
