Well said Harry2 and I agree with most of what you said. Let me post a quote from a book by Thomas Pickering "Everyone has high blood pressure some of the time. It is only a problem if it stays high over time. Damage from high blood pressure can take many years to develop. Unless you have underlying problems. High blood pressure at times is necessary as in when running or weight lifting. Some people live long normal lives and never know they have it." That said or quoted I think one of the problems with what greeneyedbat was experiencing is he was taking his blood pressure 12 times in the course of fifteen minutes. This is not good as you should give the blood vessels that you just squeezed the crap out of time to completely recover. My case in point ever fell asleep on a part of your body? When you wake up you say Oh my hand is asleep. How long does it take for regular feeling to return. Unless I am using different arms I never take a reading unless an hour apart. As for what was said above about a doctor diagnosing high blood pressure after taking three readings two weeks apart, this is silly to me. What if those three days happened to be very stressful ones for you? This would be a bad diagnosis. If you really want to know what your blood pressure is doing take a reading several times a day after one hour of inactivity. Log those readings and see what your average pressure is over a week or a month. My blood pressure weekly average is from 124/75 to 114/65 my monthly average about 128/75 do I get spikes of course. The point is if the damage takes place over time. Then should we not look at the pressure over time. I forgot to mention in my last post. Your wife's high blood pressure is referred to as secondary high blood pressure. Which means it is the result of some underlying condition. As opposed to most of us that just suffer in addiction to the western diet. When they find the underlying cause of the high blood pressure it should return to acceptable.View Thread
I agree with billH99. You should monitor your pressure over the course of a month to get a better idea. Take your pressure three or four times daily and keep a log of the readings. Use the free online blood pressure log at http://www.bpchronicle.com to keep track. If you are fasting this should actully improve your blood pressure (that is unless the fasting itself is stressing you out). In the act of fasting you cutting salt and sugar intake two things that skyrocket blood pressure. In fact there is a method of lowering blood pressure that involves fasting but it is done under a doctors care. I don't recommend fasting without supervision. It is better to just eat right.
