My name is Christina and I am a sufferer of IBS-C and"shy bowel." I've suffered from both of these for so long because none of the doctors know how to help me. In fact, over 50% of us with IBS don't find the suggestions by our doctors very helpful.
Therefore, I am trying to gather research on this "shy bowel" problem and I am hoping you will take just 5 minutes of your time to complete my survey. Thank you so much from all of your fellow problem poopers!

I was told in 2008 that I have IBS. I am not 100% sure if this is what I truely have or if it is something different. All I know is that over the past year my symptoms have gotten extremely bad. I go from being constipated for a day or to, to having diarreah. Then it will be great for awhile and I have normal bowel movement (2-3 times a day) The past 2 days I am experiencing severe abdominal pain. It feels like someone is taking razor blades and tearing my insides out. The pain hasn't left me, it is worse when I eat and I am consently burping no urge to pass gas south. I have recently made a change to my diet. I have cut out most gluten products, (pasta and breads.) I eat more salads, fruits and veggies. I don't eat reds meat as it makes me sick. Is there anyone out there that have any suggestions to help me get through this or have ideas to help improve my symptoms or get rid of them. I have missed some work and I would like to know how to make things better so I can get through my day to day life normally, and pain free. All info is welcomedView Thread
I started taking digestive enzymes and probiotics daily and by limiting what foods I ate I was okay.... If I did have a slight problem then I took a Buscopan pill (Hyoscine Butylbromide) and it cleared up.
Last year I went to another doctor and all he did was agree that it was IBS and prescribe some Hyoscine Butylbromide pills.
I've had pretty consistant loose bowel movements for this last week. Nothing I've eaten could have caused it (would have cleared up by now) so I've got a doctors appointment for later today. Really hope that I can get some help. This is really horrible and interferres with my work (meaning I'm getting warning for being sick so much).
Have a feeling I might have to demand some tests! Any specific thing I should mention? Think I just needed to vent...View Thread
My signs/symptoms:
Diarrhea - 3 to 7 watery stools some days.
Urgent need to use the bathroom. Sometimes after I eat I only have minutes to make it to the toilet. A lot of times it is almost explosive. When this happens I usually have 2 - 3 more episodes like this in a couple hours till it stops.
Pencil like stools - consistency of toothpaste.
Undigested food is common.
Stools are usually brown or green in color
Sometimes have burning watery bowel movements.
Gas/Bloating.
I never have any pain from these symptoms. Sometimes I will go a few days to up to a week with normal bathroom signs and then all of the sudden it hits me.
My mom has IBS (constipation) and has just been diagnosed with diverticulitis after spending several days in the hospital.
I also wonder if my GERD diagnosis could actually be gall bladder issues that cause digestive/bathroom issues.
This is such an embarrassing subject and I don't have family and friends to discuss it with so I feel as if I am the only one experiencing these things.
I do suffer from health anxieties so these problems don't help that out any. The pencil like stools automatically make me think cancer.View Thread
For the past few months I have been having severe issues with my stomach after eating and can not figure out what is going on. My symptoms include gas, stomach pains and constipation and is more is triggered by food- but I have been having the hardest time pinpointing what foods are the cause. I have looked into eliminating FODMAP's, maybe going paleo, taking out most starches. I've kept a food diary but have noticed different foods affect me on different day. I have taken out dairy, but recently started eating greek yogurt again which aids in digestion. I have noticed that nuts really irritate me so i have taken them out of my diet as well ( I use to eat them A LOT- may have developed an intolerance) sometimes it feels like my stomach is in knots trying to digest what ever it is that is bothering me. Sadly I do not have medical insurance to go to the doctor, so I am hoping someone has some advice
Thank youView Thread
I am on a diet of 1000 to 1600 calories a day and i drink 4-5 glasses of water daily but I haven't passed stool for 5 days. Last time this happened was for 3 days. but I passed stool on the 3rd day after I drank 2 glasses of warm water. But this time it didn't work.
I also took laxatives but I still haven't passed stool.
PLEASE help.View Thread
I have tried taking probiotics (prescription and OTC), digestive enzymes, anti-spasmodic medicine, and Rifaximin. I've been tested for Celiac's, had a stomach biopsy, had my blood examined, and had my breath tested for small intestine overgrowth.
I've seen two doctors before and am seeing one periodically now. She's out of ideas too and wants to try putting me on SSRIs, but that seems to just be to diminish the pain, not fix the problem. I don't want to be stuck on depression medicine for the rest of my life, with all the side effects, to mask the pain from my broken digestive system.
Has anything besides these medicines/tests helped others? I would really like to eat a healthy diet one day.View Thread
Would like to hear from anyone that has had same good results with this?
Thanks.View Thread
I have been on Prevacid for acid reflux for about 13 years now. 30 mgs was my daily dose for aboutthe first 5 yrs. I got vertigo from a virus that I thought caused all kinds of residuals. One of them being gastroeparesis. I was vomiting up undigested food in the middle of the night and no one could tell me why. Even though I had the gastric emptying and was advised it took me 90 minutes to digest what should have been gone in 30 minutes, but never any answer as to what to do about it. I decided to cut the Prevacid down to 15 mgs a day and the gastroeparesis seems to have gone away on it's own.
Now I am having some back issues which is not uncommon at my age, but decided to have B-12 level checked and guess what, it was low! So, after researching myself, seems that the proton pump inhibitors will deplete your B-12 . I am switching to the HCR- Zantac to see what happens next but I have a feeling it won't hurt anything , that's for sure! Why do the Gastro's insist on keeping us on these meds for years ? Don't they know what issues they can cause? I am so mad that I have to find these things out through my own research!
I had to vent in case someone else here has been going through something similar.View Thread
If so, how's it doing for you? I've been on it for a couple of weeks and so far I'm not finding it to be my miracle drug.....................
Also, has anyone had any experience with back and nerve issues in the back causing constipation? I have 3 bulging discs with some stenosis and was wondering if there is a correlation between the two.View Thread
-Frequent need to go #2
-Stool is either loose or clumpy... not a normal stool since July
-Stool has mucusy discharge with it
-I sometimes poop a clear jelly... yes, I said jelly... it's like a jelly like substance and not an actual stool.
-Stomach is upset with most everything I eat. I have completely lost the ability to digest fruit and ESPECIALLY nuts. Nuts make me sick like none other now.
All of this has been gross and hard enough to deal with it, but I'd be fine with it if I didn't have a long trip to Europe planned. I have been saving for quite some time and I am looking forward to traveling, and so it's scaring the crap out of me that I might feel like this over there while I am trying to enjoy myself. As of July, I had already started booking things, including some non-refundable plane tickets, so there's no way to put this trip off until things are figured out. I'm leaving in February.
Someone please help! THANK YOU!View Thread
