I think doctors probably each have their own individual approach to caring for their patients. I'd suggest if you have specific questions about your doctor's procedures, you go straight to the horse's mouth and ask him. He'll be able to tell you if he thinks the expense would be worthwhile now that it's four months later and you're still TTC.
Hopefully at the end of your 2WW you'll get a BFP this time!
If you have any concerns about what the specialist told you, I would suggest seeing another specialist who can look over your records and tests and make an expert recommendation. You may want to ask about options other than surgery, too.
Here's one of our Health Experts, Dr. Walmer's response to another member asking about Varicocele Repair.
Hello An_241495 and thanks for posting. Your question is a good one, but you'll need to see a doctor in person to give you an answer.
Nurse Jane wrote a blog on the topic called the Ties that Bind . She says in part, "Nationwide, the cost of bilateral tubal ligation (BTL) ranges from $1,500 to $6,000. The cost of a reversal can run between $3,000 (internet quote from tubal reversal clinic) to $7,000-$15,000. The cost of a cycle of in vitro fertilization (IVF) runs about the same as tubal reversal. Most insurance plans do not cover tubal reversal or IVF after voluntary tubal ligation. So before you spend your money, you may want to know what your chances for a "take home baby" are likely to be."
