It is absolutely amazing with the progress that has been made with hip replacement. I had my first one done 8 years ago, and my latest (July 16, 2012) was totally different. First one took almost 2 hours, this latest surgery was about 45 min., and as you said, small incision, but so much improved. Same Dr. did both surgeries and I would recommend him highly to anyone who needs this procedure. And as far as pain, just about non-existent. Only had Tylenol a couple of times. I was in the hospital for 2 days, but that was because my Dr insisted because I'm 74 years old and have some other medical issues. But I used a walker twice, a cane for about 3 days, and no assistance after that. Some physical therapy at my home for a couple of weeks (total of 7 sessions with the PT) and I still to this day continue with some of the exercises recommended to speed up complete recovery. I have to say that after 3 weeks, no one would believe I had this major procedure, and I was even questioning about "did I dream this or what". Wonderful experience as far as I'm concerned.
At any rate, when I complimented him on what a great job he did, his comment was "I have a great team". A very humble and wonderful surgeon. The very best ever.View Thread
