History:
2005: one white, raised "bubble" spot grew cluster of twins into dime size colony in weeks, though original spot was there for a couple years first. Removed by Dermatologist. Diax: Melanoma, but no color. Went back in and had it removed, no further treatment needed.
Yearly check-ups.
2011: SAME type of white "bubble" spot on other arm without cluster, new dermatologist said "not possible cancer"....same office, same records. Approx 1mm in size.
2012: white bubble still there, slightly larger (only @ 3mm wide)
Yep, new dr, same records. (same clinic) She did remove three other moles - one on lower leg (shading into skin, slightly bumpy/rough now although had one there for decades); one on left arm near "bubble" - same deal as leg - creeping shading, slightly bumpy/rough. Only about 5 years old; one RIGHT on bra support band line, been there for decades with no problem, removed because current bra size doesn't support without larger band - no cancer suspected.View Thread

Dr. Louise Chang from our WebMD medical staff is going to be taking part in a panel discussion at the White House on Monday, June 11 — Online Seniors' Health Town Hall -- regarding affordable health care for seniors.
If you are a senior or a caregiver for someone who needs affordable care, we'd love to gather your questions and comments for Dr. Chang to present to the panel. Providing these questions give the folks who make the laws insight into how REAL people are affected by their decisions.
We appreciate your feedback and candor, and look forward to passing it along.

So now we need to figure out what to do. We still need to get the creatinine levels under control ( my father is having a liver biopsy on Monday), and this could be a problem in having future treatment, but hopefully that will figure the kidney thing out - it is a rare side effect to the Yervoy (or MDX1106 - who knows what caused it?) My father could have chemotherapy, but from what i read, that is not considered to be so great with melanoma. They don't think radiation is a great option with so many spots. I am trying to research different treatments out there. My father does not have the BRAF mutation. They are testing him for the KiT mutation. We are hoping we can manage this disease so my father can live a long life. He is very beloved by our entire community and is the heart of our family. My children are babies and I am scared, I want them to grow up with their wonderful grandfather. Can anyone please help and give me some ideas of what to be looking into? I have spent hours researching melanoma treatment and am a little unsure what our options are now. We are trying to stay positive - it is so important - but would love some advice about now. Any help would be so greatly appreciated.View Thread
Take the Poll
All went well. My face really was a wreck but it looks just fine now.
So I thought I was finished with this for a while. However, this evening I noticed a lump on the palm of my hand that is just opposite where the melanoma was removed on the top of my hand.
Ugh. I'm hoping it's just a ganglion or something simple. Just 'venting' here... like they say... it's always something.View Thread

I did take the advice from my mom and have an appt next Wed (the day after my 31st bday) to have them looked at. But I am really scared that this might be something other just normal, that it might be the C-word. I am fair-skinned and have had a few sunburns in my almost 31 years, so it does scare me. Does anyone have any thoughts on what it might be?View Thread
Forward one year: I'm going on a vacation to FL in a week or so (it's May 1st), and I fully realize how well I need to use the right kind of sun protection (UVA and UVB, I believe ?) ... I even found a sun hat that boasts a 50SPF factor embedded into the material.
But I like to wear foundation, so my question is, after I've applied a suitable sun protection to my face, will wearing a foundation over that lessen the strength or ability of the sun protection to do its job? I know you can't "add up" SPFs (for ex., a facial moisturizer with a 15 SPF, then applying a 25 SPF sunscreen doesn't mean I have 40 SPF working). I also know some foundations have limited SPF, so I think my best protection is going to be a good facial sunscreen first, then the foundation - am I on the right track?View Thread
I am planning to see my derm next week, but I wanted to drop in here first and see if you could share some pointers on what I should talk to her about. And, if this IS actinic keratosis, what are the normal treatments for it? Once treated, does it come back?
Is it likely I will scar? I'd hate to have a huge scar on my nose. Yikes!
Any direction is much appreciated.

It's a hard, white, small area that I can't "pick" off.
I am unable to get into a dermatologist until June. What do I need to know or what should I do until I see the doctor if it is solar keratosis?
I'm concerned, thanks.View Thread

Melanoma Rates Skyrocketing in Young Adults
Does this information surprise you? What can be done to raise awareness and convince young folks to routinely slather on sunscreen, avoid sunbathing and tanning?

I went to dermatologist a few days ago for annual exam. I stated I had history of skin cancer in family so I had to have a full body exam for first time. I was told to strip to boxers to be examined. When on my back the dr. lifted my boxers and looked for no more than 10 seconds. No big deal I thought. Later in the day when I went to restroom I noticed a small freckle on top side of my penis, under the head in my circumcision scar. It is about the size of a pin head. I can't say if it has been there for a while or not because I never really noticed until after my exam.
I don't think there is anyway she saw it as 1. she looked so quickly and 2. you wouldn't have been able to notice as my penis shrivels up and it is not noticeable unless you stretch it when soft. When erect you can see it visibly.
Should I call them and let them now about it? Is this normal to have a freckel there? Should she exam me more closely?
Again I apologize for the post but it kinda has me freaked out now.
I appreciate your feedback. Thank you.View Thread
