Because i'm still teaching, I have access to subscription only medical journal data bases. I'm happy to send articles I've found if either of you are interested. My son set up a temporary e-mail account so wither you or Cheryl would like me to send copies of the articles you can give me your home address and/or e-mail there. Maybe we could set up some phone or skype conversations as well.

) to see without magnification--large whitish patches. Does something more show up under magnification?I don't have diabetes, but the herbalist I'm seeing ordered seven blood tests, so when they come back maybe I'll know more about possible predisposing conditions. I do have high cholesterol which I'm treating with diet and red rice yeast since I don't tolerate statins.
Peace and comfort to all...View Thread

As for finding a specialist--it ends up being either a gynecological oncologist or a dermatologist. The former recommend surgery; the later chemotherapy. I think I have found just about every article that has been published in the medical literature on EMPD. You're right--it's not being studied; most articles are anecdotal--based on one or two cases-- one longitudinal study had about 30 people and because it's rare and mostly older women, it's just not high on anyone's list.
I'm also trying acupuncture and herbs--it really feels like I have to do the research, run the trials myself and figure things out. I also think this is often misdiagnosed (I was told I had lichen sclerosis for years). If we could all find each other, I imagine there would be a goodly numbers. Anyway, it is good to have some company on this journey. Let me know how it goes!View Thread

Well we already have a few things in common. I'm in my 60s and a teacher, although I'm still working. And we're both interested in nontraditional therapies as well as the standard options...I'm seeing an herbalist and acupuncturist with an MD in oncology. Sorry that you have to deal with yeast infections on top of the EMPD!
With some help from my computer savy family and friends, I have a temporary e-mail for us to use--as I see Elizabeth WebMD staff suggested. So e-mail me at temp@danielhunter.org and we can talk some more.
Looking forward to hearing from you!View Thread

Hurray! Thanks for posting!! Glad you listened to your instinct--I am recovering from a vulvectomy and while I'm doing fine--it takes 4 or 5 months for all the pain to go away and it is a pain (as you can imagine!) to keep clean (squegee bottles and hair dryers!!) I miss being able to sit comfortably, ride a bike and all that good stuff. I did a 3 month run of imoquiod--ran a 103 fever with the first application, so lowered the dose. It made the EMPD disappear for a couple months, but it returned; hence the vulvectomy. Hope yours clears up with the cream! How's it going?

PS I like "Arizonasmiles." Is Arizona home? I'm in Indiana where it is currently blustery and stormy.View Thread
