I am a 54 year old male who was diagnosed with stage 3b melanoma. I had a mole removed from my shoulder and 2 lymph nodes. The lymph nodes had traces of the disease. After having a brain MRI and a PET scan there was no other areas that had been infected. There was a spot that was unidentifiable because it was so close to where the other 2 were removed, that they couldn't determine if it was cancer or the inflammation from the surgery. To me that was fantastic news. My oncologist immediately wants to put me on chemo. It seems like no matter what stage I was, they're gonna give me the same amount. This doesn't make any sense to me. My Dr was out of town and had me talk to his NP and was only concerned with when I wanted to start. Needless to say we will be talking to him before I do anything. I am going to get another opinion, or 2, before I do anything. I have read way to much on line, true and untrue, and am completely confused on what to do. I'm even considering alternative medicine. I don't have a lot of faith, at this point, on the whole system. Has anyone else been through this and can shed some light on this. I know this is one of the stages of this disease, but I still need some convincing.View Thread
