Mary Jane Minkin, MD, is a nationally recognized obstetrician gynecologist, with a special interest in menopause. Dr. Minkin is clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at Yale School of Medicine, and practices as a partner in Obstetrics, Gynecology and Menopause physicians in New Haven and Guilford, Connecticut. She lectures regularly to physicians and medical students, as well as to women directly. She has published many books, including A Woman's Guide to Menopause and Perimenopause, and A Woman's Guide to Sexual Health.

Dr. Minkin serves as women's health adviser to Prevention Magazine, and is regularly interviewed in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times, as well as Cosmo, More, Glamour, Marie Claire, Self, and Women's Health. She has appeared on the Today Show and Good Morning America. She is a regular guest on NYU Doctor's Radio, on Sirius XM; she loves answering questions from listeners, and really enjoys folks calling in at 4 AM. "I sure hope I can help those people," she notes.

Mary Jane chose to go into ob-gyn for many reasons; it is one of the few specialties where physicians can diagnose, and then operate on the patient, if surgery is needed. However, what most drew her to the specialty is its emphasis on preventative care. She believes that many diseases can be prevented by good health habits and non medical interventions-and she shares that with her patients and readers and listeners regularly. What really drew her to menopause is that it is state that occurs to all women, if we live long enough; and that there are many preventative measures that can help women get through smoothly. There are also simple medications, which if needed, can make a big difference.

Even more important to Mary Jane is her family; husband Steve is a mathematician. Daughter Allegra is a senior at Brown, and a terrific debater. Son Max is a junior at Stanford, and studies statistics, particularly sports statistics. All are avid Mets fans, although they do have many friends who cheer on other teams.
