I am 46 years old and on the last day of 36 days of the HCG diet. I lost 14 lbs, although experienced 4 or 5 plateaus lasting 4 days each..with some gain of a pound or more in between. I thought I had seen everything, but this diet, which helped me lose 14 lbs that would never budge through healthy eating and exercise alone in the past 4 years, was the only thing that worked. But it had its moments of HELL. There is so much to adhere to in this plan that I can clearly understand why it is NOT for everyone. Trying to drink nearly a gallon of water a day ( and peeing every 10 minutes is no fun ) and forcing yourself to poop 3x a day on very little food is next to impossible unless you take up to 6 or 8 ALOE LAX each day to keep things moving ( even though the label says no more than 1 a day ). The promises of a pound or even 2 lbs a day- sound like a miracle. I heard of better results than my own, and felt frustrated I was not losing more. But after reading many blogs here, I see mine was perhaps more typical...14 lbs in 5 weeks. That is almost a third of a pound a day...or 2.5 lbs a week? Not worth shouting from the highest mountain from. But it does seem to have been fat lost from all over. Toward the end of my 5 weeks, I did feel tired. And nutritionally bankrupt. I was told by the director that I could go as long as 50 days. But my body told me to stop ( ran out at 36 days anyway, of the injections ). I had no side effects except sometimes when sitting still, my heart would feel fluttery, and I my period is 8 days late...? Question is- short of having an ultrasound...I can't take a pregnancy test since the HCG is still in my system. After 2 weeks on the program, I accidentally left my HCG out of the fridge for 2 or 4 hours and I was told it was likely worthless and had to be replaced. In all, I spent $500 for 36 days..that is about $38 a lb. lost, or $16 a day? And it was not easy rotating the same foods over and over since I am a non MEAT eater. Bless the people who can stick with this. But the minute you are not losing, plateauing, and yet still only eating 500 calories a day, this tells me your body is starving and you should break for the required weeks and try again. Sneeze wrong and the diet is blown for the next 3 or 4 days. It is very sensitive, fragile, and you are walking on egg shells the whole time, while eating next to nothing. Only do this program if your metabolism or hypotholomus is messed up, like mine was. After all this complaining, after my 5 wk break, I may do it again for a 23 day cycle just lose a bit more. At 14 lbs I was only half way through my goal and it was a bit of torture.View Thread
