Hello. It's been awhile since I posted here. I am a chronic migraineur but Sunday night a migraine unlike any I can ever remember began.
My right temple suddenly began throbbing & the right side of the back of the neck just below the skull is very sore & when pressed, sends a sharp pain directly to the same temple. Unlike my usual migraines, this one has not responded to my usual medications. I tried Sumavel Dosepro Pen with flurbiprofen (prescription ibuprofen), caffeine, ice on neck & temple, aleve & vicoden. I get about 2 hrs relief from the dosepro then it comes back just as strong & sudden. The vicodin actually made it much worse yesterday. Normally, my migraines are in both temple and/or head & respond to dosepro + flurbiprofen for at least 16 to 18 hours before I need the next dose. I dont know what this is & if I need to call the doctor right away.View Thread
I am so sensitive to meds that anytime I begin or end any med I get constant migraines. Hopefully as you get close to tapering all the way off of Pristiq the headaches will subside. Have you tried taking a couple of otc pain meds with the imitrex? I always needed that extra kick my doc said it was ok.View Thread
This doc doesnt seem very empathetic to your needs. I know what you mean about doing this over the holiday's, as the same thought has been on my mind. I thought i would wait to do the steroid thing until after Christmas & when my other meds are straightened out. My new doc, who I've only seen once, was great. He told me if I cannot do this at home, on my own that he would hospitalized me. Its nice to know he cares enough about wanting his patients healthy. I will not go to the hospital for this, no way-but good to know the option is there. I hope you will be able to get straightened out with these meds so you can stop the rebound effect-Good Luck.View Thread
I saw a headache specialist for the 1st time last month & he said the same thing. He prescribed me a steroid for 12 days to help with the pain & I am to take no otc pain meds or maxalt. He did, however prescribe the Sumavel DosePro Pen to use when I get the migraines. I showed him 3 months of migraine calendars which showed between 10-18 migraines headaches everyday in between. I thought the headaches were more tension type. He said they are all migraines at this point due to overuse of all serotonin stimulants-triptans, pain meds, advil etc.. I have not taken the steroid or tried the Sumavel yet(which is just imitrex) because I am going through another med change for something else & didnt want to put my body through too much. I am very sensitive to med changes & always suffer alot of sleep disruption & nausea. Did your doctor mention the use of a steroid? Im wondering if anyone else has tried this & did it help?View Thread
I had a sleep study done 2 years ago. The only thing it verified was that I did not have apnea, which I could have told them. It was a very difficult night with all of the wires attached, including under the nostrils. For me, the study was a total waste. I have basically had insomnia for 20 years & will be on sleep medication for the rest of my life, which I am ok with.View Thread
Has anyone used the Sumavel DosePro Pen & if so, where on the body did you use it since you cannot inject it directly into a muscle or vein? I guess the stomach a good as place as any but wanted to hear where others have used it.View Thread
