My Dr. has me on Gabapentin 300 mg - 1 capsule three times a day. It was working great until my sister got sick and then passed away. Due to all the stress my migraines are back in full force, but I/Dr thinks once I get the stress levled back out the gabapentin will kick back in again. Don't know if this will help anyone or not, but if you are like me you will try anything to prevent migraines and to get rid of them. The gabapentin is only a preventive and actually was originally on the market for epilepsy, then neuropathy and now migraine preventive. Good luck if anyone decides to give this a try.View Thread

Have you thought about asking your Dr for a prescription preventive that you take all month? Just a thought. Good luck, I know migraines quite well and know just how awful and debilitating they can be.View Thread

I also forgot to put that my migraines come on basically like yours do in the middle of the night. Occasionally I will get one during the day, but not as often as at night. There are times I don't even want to go to bed. Anyways just wanted to add that.View Thread

I have been put on a preventive that is not actually for migraines but they are finding out that it does help. It is called Gabapentin. It worked fantastic for me until my sister died and my stress level went nuts for awhile. It is starting to work again as I am dealing with her death and the stress level is down somewhat. I have suffered from migraines w/o aura since I was 21 and the last year has been the worst being that I was having 4-5 per week, going and getting shots, etc. My doctor put me back on butalbital and we have found that is the only thing with the gabapentin that works for me. I have tried all the other meds and to no avail. The gabapentin is taken daily. I don't know if this will help you or not but I sure hope so. Take care and I hope you get those migraines under control.View Thread

My question is, is there a cure for migraines? I know all my triggers and stay away from them, except stress is the main one I have problems with. I am on a preventive but still get 2-3 migraines a week. Two different doctors have told me it is the stress. They are probably right, but these migraines are driving me insane, plus I am missing so much work and missing out on so much of life. I take the pain pills and they knock me out, it just seems to be a never ending cycle.

That is one I have never heard of. More info on it would be nice if you have it or I can look it up. Good luck as you have my heartfelt sypmathy if you have migraines. Most people that don't have them do not understand the pain we are in and why we can't function.View Thread

Dr. Collins, what does Katlin mean when she says a genetic neurological disease? I know what genetic means but what about the neurological disease?
Also I have tried the triptans and Midrin and didnot work. Also is she correct about the stress part? Its not that I don't believe her, I just want all the "correct" info I can get.
Thank you very much for you answers and for your time.
Sincerely,

Migraines and macular degeneration
I have had migraines for several years and recently they have become more severe and more...

I have had migraines for several years and recently they have become more severe and more often. My Dr had a CT scan done and it showed everything to be fine. I am on a migraine preventive medicine plus meds for the migraines. I am now at the point that I am having to get shots for the migraines, not often, but yet too often for me, if you know what I mean.
Now to my actual question; I went to the eye Dr the other day as I am not seeing like I thought I should. He told me I was in the beginning stage of macular degeneration. I was so dumbfounded I didn't think to ask questions. I am wondering if there is a correlation between the migraines and the macular degeneration? I am going to ask my medical doctor about this too, but just wondered if anyone on here might know something about this or one of the doctors on here that answers questions might know. Any imput would be appreciated.View Thread

I know what you mean as I have the same problem. And my Dr. cannot seem to find an answer. This is getting very old for me cause I am missing so much work (fortunately my boss understands most of the time) but when I don't work I don't get paid for the days missed. And, like you it makes me afraid to go to sleep at night, etc. Good luck and hopefully things will get better for both of us.View Thread
