I am so sorry I don't respond often. I am is usually in such extreme pain or trying not to be. Reading, unfortunately, usually adds to my pain. I really hv tried almost everything mentioned in all the blogs. Many work for many people, so don't give up hope! I am always the exception I am working with a new dr. I don't know if she'll help me or not. But I like her philosophies a lot. "People with migraines should Not be blamed for their own illness." When I read "that" stmt I almost wept. Time after time drs hv lkd at me like "I" was the crazy one b/c I didn't fit into their neat little guidelines of a typical migraine. I still don't know if this dr can help me but I don't think she'll quit. Basically her beliefs are that continuous, natural, healthy sleep will improve neurological health. And it could take years to restore your body after years of abuse. She regulates your Vit D3 & BComplex & backs it up w lots of research which she shares for FREE online to help others & their drs. I'm pretty discerning & she doesn't seem to hv an agenda besides helping others. To my knowledge she doesn't offer any products for sale. She doesn't push expensive treatments or meds. Disclaimer: I am not yet better (its only been 8 wks) But her theories hv validity & her personal beliefs towards migraine sufferers is the best I've seen. Her research for free is at
drgominak dot com Like I said, she offers this so u can take it to Your dr to discuss I may not write much anymore I am too tired of pain I pray each of you find the unique thing that works for you so that you do not hv to suffer this daily pain Please excuse the Bible verse if you are not a believer, maybe you can get inspiration from it somehow
Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you declares The Lord. Plans to prosper you and not harm you. Plans to give you hope & a future." I am in bed 90% of the time. I hv a fmly. I usually feel useless. Yesterday I called an elderly fmly friend & talked to him for 2 hrs. It was the highlight of his month. As frustrated as we can all get sometimes, there are things we can do for others that no one else can. Sorry if I hv rambled too long. Have a very Merry Christmas! And if no one has told you they love you today, I will. I love you with Christian love!View Thread
I too am taking Namenda 10mg 2xs daily. At first it seemed to help, but now it seems to be tapering off. I think the weather in East Texas is killing me. It's May and it was 42 degrees 2 days ago. Tomorrow its supposed to be 74 degrees. We are usually swimming by now. Rarely do the "drs" suggest anything. My friend emailed me an article about Namenda and the drs let me try.
I used to be needle resistant but what hurts more than a 10 migraine? I just don't care anymore. I have had nerve blocks under my eyebrows at the top of my eyesockets, etc! Yes, I've tried Botox, didn't work and made me sick.
I haven't tried Butrans Patches but I tried Lidocaine Patches (not strong enough) and Buterol ?? patches that caused a severe allergic reaction. But I will definitely look that up. Thank you!
I am looking forward to trying a hypnotherapist this week. I've spoken to her on the phone and if nothing else it sounds like it will be a positive experience!
Sorry it took so long for me to reply. My iPad has been broken and we havent been able to afford to get it fix and I usually use that in bed. Its difficult for me to get up and spend much time on the main computer. Thanks so much for your encouraging words! KarenQ kdquintonatsuddenlinkdotnetView Thread
I highly recommend you trying an all natural progesterone cream!! This really helped me for a while. The very first time I tried it I rubbed it directly on my forehead & it began to ease my pain. I have used OTC (Over-the-Counter) & Precription compounded before. I think they really are about the same. If you hv great ins & want to get hormone levels chkd first, you mite want to see a dr. If not, see a health food store. My favorite is Now brand Progesterone made from Wild Yams. Unscented used twice a day & will last for a monthView Thread
I didnt hv this (but makes sense since its a poison that kills nerves) But I had extreme gastric distress w Botox so bad that I would wake up in the middle of the night gagging on the indigestion coming up in my throat This lasted about two weeks. Also in other threads on this website I hv read that initial migraines from Botox are common and that most need more than 1treatment for it to begin to work I don't know the details b/c I only tried once That discussion thread might be under the 10 year migraineView Thread
I hear you now! I am sorry but I personally am having trouble learning how to navigate this site, how to even get back to the right place & I am now sure I ave accidentally deleted some of my links. I think I am beginning to grasp it. But I hurt most of the time, too much screen time hurts & meds mess with my concentration But I was frustrated too b/c I thought I was being ignored
Ok, I am going to look up the med that I think you suggested a few months ago Petadolex. I may hv tried it under a different name but I will definitely look Many thanks always!
Please reply if you hv other thoughts & I will try my best to find you again!View Thread
You are right! You try to be proactive & tell your doctor details & ask questions & they don't really respond.
I am on Teacher Disability (which isn't that much since I only taught 10 yrs) & thats it. We are lower middle income family of 4 & don't "qualify" for any other assistance. It just doesn't make any sense. I have really tried.View Thread
I have the strangest suggestion you've ever heard. I had a similar vertigo once & was told a virus had settled in my head indefinitely. ?? Quite by chance, I thought I might be getting a yeast infection & took a pre-emptive strike with Diflucan The next day the dizziness was gone (I can't remember if I had to retake it the next week or so). None of the doctors at that time thought it made sense. But if you can get "swimmers ear" bacteria growing in your ear, isn't that like a yeast? Well, I am not a doctor and you can research The Yeast Connection and the Woman & get a lot of confusing information But a relatively simple, inexpensive (compared to what you have already been through) is to take a dose of Diflucan, a one dose oral prescription for yeast infections if your doctor will prescribe it
I have chronic daily migraines However, I sometimes have pain free migraines so I know exactly what you're describing. Hope this is of some help.View Thread
Botox can take weeks to work &/ or more than 1 round? Yes, I am horrified at my doctors lack of information! Dumbfounded...I usually know the info for myself from research but somehow missed that Of course, I hv asked to try Botox before w a referral from my PCP & was flatly refused. Now it seems that years later the dr that did try it was Duh.
Namenda is a med for Alzheimer's I have used it before & it definitely helped my cognitive abilities But I didn't know if it was "repairing" or making my nerves reconnect faster from my nerve ablation procedures So I stopped using it I see a new doctor in a couple of weeks & I will have to check
ANY time I start or stop a medication I get a migraine for a few days It depends on the med how bad it is & how long it lasts But I try to tough it out if it's for a preventive med with a good reputaton Maybe not so much for a long shot & we all know our bodies/migraines better than anyone
I am so tired of pain & I am so tired of drs just looking at me like it's my fault We are fairly broke now & have exhausted most possibilities, even extreme ones like surgeries & implants Now, except for a few long shots it seems I will be just repeating treatments in new combinations trying to get resultsView Thread
I am so sorry! I can manage a day with a bad migraine but when its continuously bad with no relief I start going crazy I will call my doctor & make sure they Know the level of my pain I am not a dr but personally I think if Botox was going to help, you would at least hv seen
a little improvement with the first round Since you hvnt and Botox is a form of poison and it sounds like you hvnt had a good reaction I would hesitate to try it again drugs.com is where I go to look up all my meds It gives you all the info for consumers, side effects, drug interactions, etc
I just heard about infusion therapy myself last week A dr near me does it I think he called it Oxygen Enriched Plasma Therapy? I am going to lk into it Will try anything But I hv been dealing with " life" & hvnt made an appt yet. I would also like to try oxygen therapy & a lidocaine inhaler.
I have read that as many as 10% of women in America hv undiagnosable migraines. Marcia Cross, Bree on Desperate Housewives, has migraines. I am, by no means, glad that there are so many people who suffer this horrible torture But it makes me feel like less of a pariah
Yes I am so very tired of pain I was actually excited about my MRI two weeks ago b/c I knew they were going to sedate me since I am so claustrophobic Sedation & Anesthesia mean no pain Ahhhhh But how sick is that Just knowing that for that amt of time I could be Pain Free!View Thread
Yes, many times I feel desperate, frustrated, lonely, etc because I am not the same person I used to be and I know what I should be doing with my kids & I rarely am able to.
Meds for anxiety & depression r also used to treat migraines & your doctor can add on whatever seems best. Of course the anti-seizure Toamax is the " best one to try," then add (generic now) then they could add a blood pressure med like Propanolol ($4 at Walmart w/o ins), if you respond to any of the triptans you could use those The new r expensive but some of the originals mite not b so bad now, liike Imitrex, Maxalt, etc
For anxiety I take Lorazepam but some use Xanex, For depression I hv taken several Prozac, Zoloft, or Effexor find 1 that wks for u I hv tried lots of supplements but the ones I hv stuck w are a Multi- B, Vit D-3 (& a dr told me a Vit d deficiency could cause migraines) At nite I stil take a sleeping pill, Ambian, & OTC Melatonin.
Too many pain meds & you will get rebound migraines When I first started dealing w migraines my family dr, and she was so,kind & professional But we just tried 1 med @ a time When I got in with the neuro she prescribed several of the meds I described above
Then there are nerve blocks (injections in your head, I am the biggest wimp n the world but when I hv a migraine they can do anything to me if they think it mite make it stop) and Botox Many r successful w Botox & it did make my forehead pretty. But it gave me horrible indigestion, like wkg up gagging )
Easy things : Pray, Put an ice pack on your head, Turn off lights, Distraction helps me (listening/watching tv but nothing to intense or listening to an audiobk, sometimes tkg to a friend on the phone), Scents also trigger mine ( perfume, cooking onions/bacon, smoke, flowers)
Ok I am tired Please feel free to ask any further questions I hv been going through this for a while & hv tried more than can be mentioned but these r the highlights
I am so sorry you hv these horrible migraines!
May God bless you & help you find a solution/help to ease your painView Thread
